A sticky thread for a TA DJ mix archive thread?

I was thinking...do you guys think it would be nice for TA Dj's to be able to have a thread where all of their material that is online would be available? There are many TA dj's that have multiple sets, and i think an archive might be a great idea to have more exposure.

It would probably help those that get little attention get more exposure as well.

opinions?

also i am willing to update this...too many talented people here to go unnoticed.

To be honest, I was thinking of actually creating an archive thread for mine recently - this could be a much better alternative that would provide some exposure for anyone willing to put the effort in.

I say do it, and also TA DJ promo circle jerk mafia for laife.

i agree, do it up

i think a whole buncha people should get together to do one massive mix, just record a mix under the same idea, have all people send their parts to another and have one person mix them all into one. would be like a huge 6 hour set from 6 people with great talent here

I would have sex with all this ideas.

I think it would work better if you had one person start, have that person finish the first hour, then send it (the mix) off to another person and have them continue for another hour. and etc.

yep, that was my idea as well, just so the other person has the idea of where to go with the mix

This thread is not really about the megamix...but i am game for that too.

what i would like, is suggestions on how this archive thread would move smoothly.

assuming they will even sticky it.

i think the things that are essential are:

tracklist
label info
genre

open to suggestions...if a mod or admin approves a sticky i will take care of the rest.

lets hear it...suggestions.

I agree with your idea, and on top of that, I think we should categorize the sets by genre.

Maybe this could be an actual website with a search function to search by genre, artist, set title, and other parameters. This needs to be done, there are plenty of excellent amateur sets on this site, and like you said, too many talented people go unnoticed and unloved

I would be down for creating it, I'm a computer programmer for a living, I wouldn't mind writing the whole website.

welp, even if i called you a fag before...let us see what ideas come out of it. If you want to put the time in it would be cool.

As long as you take it easy on that demotivational picture

I could set up a database with some specific fields:

Title
Artist
Length
Genre(s)
Tracklist
Link
Other Notes (label info, etc goes here)

Most of these fields are going to need to be filled out, and it will have to be a collective effort, I can't write a script to fill this shit out for me unfortunately. I'm not that talented

If anybody else wants to be a part of this effort, we can make the site.

Artist

Mix Name:
Tracklist:
Genre:

ex:

Rob Turner

Mix Name: Live from The Oval Office
Tracklist:deadmau5 - not exactly
deadmau5 - faxing washington
deadmau5 - clockwork palin

Genre: ambient
download

each artist gets a new post so they can have their very own page, and those that want an archive post of their mixes would submit/pm you or another person helping out, the entire layout of the post so the person that maintains the page isn't arsed to do it for the DJ.

but to make sure the thread is locked so it doesn't get messy.

this is a great idea, would make things much easier to find.

there are many ways to do this, i would really enjoy an organized layout where people search based upon genre

Posted by elFreak on Oct-09-2008 05:17:

i agree that comments should be kept for the original thread...ie: links available if people wanted to give opinions.

the reason for this thread was simply because i wanted to do it for myself, it has not been done before, and i am already too much of a self righteous cunt to do it on my own.

i already pm' ed swamper, but it would be nice if more than just 5 people thought it would be a good idea....

this would in no way be exclusive, so long as the people who submit put the effort in to making their sets properly labeled.(tl/label info/genre)

fair is fair...no half assed shit.

i will say label info is important...not only does it promote those who make the sets possible, it is just good practice.

I do think that at least asking those who participate in it to adhere to a general form would be good - and to that end, wouldn't it maybe be easy if there was some sort of template (copy and paste or some silly flash app - doesn't matter) to make it as easy as possible to keep it as organized as possible?

Also, one concern is how will it allow for new members to participate and get equal exposure after the thread has gotten huge?

I don't know - maybe that's not even a big deal, but it would be nice to basically have a searchable database rather than a thread where depending on when you got in, you'd get more or less exposure.

good idea, but i'd only like to start mine from this year

I like the idea, but the layout is atrocious. The thing on the left fucking follows you as you scroll down. That just lost like 40 cool points.

Posted by elFreak on Oct-09-2008 05:39:

that site is quite shit...i was just referring to the genre/dj master list.

im would also suggest a minimum of 5 sets to be eligible.

it would limit clutter.

You're going to run into problems with dead links all over the place, I would imagine. Anyone that doesn't have access to proper hosting will have their links die in 3-6 months or whatever, using Sendspace/Megaupload etc, unless they remember to update their shit all the time.

I'm always happy to host sets for people, since I get so much wicked music from all the DJs here, and I have way more disk space/bandwidth than I need, but I can't do it for everyone, obviously. It's a pretty busy forum

I really like the idea though Jay

The design of http://www.mixdepot.net is pretty good, and I've been whoring myself on there since 2006

good point.

this thread is just to throw some ideas around.

i believe divx share does not delete files ever, so that could also be a solution.

@ djx2 that archive of yours is wonderfully clean.
