Lee Jones - Electronic Frank

Anybody give this a listen yet? Hopefully I can find a hard copy to purchase this week. I wouldn't mind hearing thoughts from people who have listened to this album.

MDMAmazing is the highlight of the cd imho

such a sick melodic hypnotic track.

Albums like this make me wish I had more than $10 to my name.

Bought this earlier this morning, really enjoying pretty much all of it.

There is nothing, I repeat, absolutely NOTHING about this album that is minimal.

How on Earth anyone would call this minimal is an utter fucking mystery to me.

Some tracks maybe sounds abit housey, others deep techno, but listening to the whole thing, the concept, yep, it's minimal. where's the mystery?

Is it a house, deep techno album, and i didn't know?

No, it isn't, and you clearly don't even know what conceptual minimalism is.

Minimal (Click)

And to be honest, I'd even hesitate to call that proper minimal as far as the initial conceptual art movement known as minimalism is concerned - but likely the closest thing you'll find to it in the world of EDM.

It's also probably fair to note that the bulk (if not all) of what the folks at Beatport decide to label "minimal", isn't.

So, just name it, please, mr electronic expert.

Well, first we can start with the classic example John Cage 4'33".

But beyond that, it isn't about being an "electronic expert", it's about understanding what conceptual minimalism was/is in the first place, and how that concept doesn't really apply to what most people refer to as minimal when it comes to electronic music.

And you don't have to be an expert to learn about it, as a matter of fact any asshole or idiot is welcome to use the search function on Wikipedia to at least find a jumping off point for learning about just about anything.

I'll even do the hard work for you: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Minimalism_music

We're not here talking about what minimalism in music is.

But the better definition of this album.

I bet the most here agree with me.

And thanks for expanding my knowledge with wiki links.

You know, you can't compare the so called "minimal" in electronic music scene with the old/classic minimalism stuff.

Yes, you can. Especially when it comes to idiots bandying about buzzwords without thinking about their implications.

Oh, I'm sorry, my mistake - if that's really the line you want to take I'm more than happy to continue on that track and remain steadfast in telling you that even if you're going to compare this album to the bulk of what people have mistakenly called "minimal" these past handful of years, this is not minimal.

I bet you they don't.

The stock response of idiots who think it automatically gets them off the hook because "wiki is unreliable."

Feel free to check references/citations/sources on both of those links I gave you, champ. Then decide whether or not you want to keep playing the douchebag card, it's really up to you after all.

Thanks for playing though.

Edit: And I also linked you to a set. Expand your knowledge with that, dickhead.

You make me laugh with all this fury. calm down, baby.

I keep my attention in the music not in tags.

Fuck if it's officially minimal or anything.

Fucks sake, you asked for an explanation, I gave it to you. You gave me a smart ass response, you got one in turn.

Pretty cut and dry if you ask me.

I get the impression that literally no one would be glad for that.

Pretty much. MDMAzing is minimal now? Waaaow.

Posted by Adam420 on Oct-12-2008 21:04:

Fuuuuuuck I ordered this CD today and have to wait 2 and a half weeks

Hope I can hold off on downloading it b4 then.

Posted by RJT on Oct-14-2008 01:09:

Couldn't help myself - $13 seems like a steal for this album, downloading now.

I ALREADY KNOW I WOULD HAVE SEX WITH ALL THIS MUSICS.

Posted by RJT on Oct-14-2008 01:15:

Also, I really hope at least a few of these can be easily edited/extended.

"Roadwork" is groovy as fuck, this album just screams "BUY ME AND PLAY ME!".

Edit: Also, "Beginn" is about as good as they come from my point of view.

Posted by bas on Oct-14-2008 01:44:

Roadwork is also on the Safari EP, and there's a Soon EP coming out in a few weeks with EP edits of MDMAzing and The Secret as well as a remix of Soon from The Mole that's absolutely mental.

You have made my brain sparkle with unicorn shit twice in the last minute.

I want to impregnate you with glitter.
