Vote Yes! On Prop 2
Prevents cruelty to animals.
Its simply wrong to confine veal calves, breeding pigs, and egg-laying hens in tiny cages barely larger than their bodies. Calves are tethered by the neck and can barely move, pigs in severe confinement bite the metal bars of their crates, and hens get trapped and even impaled in their wire cages. We wouldnt force our pets to live in filthy, cramped cages for their whole lives, and we shouldnt force farm animals to endure such misery. All animals, including those raised for food, deserve humane treatment.
i already sent in my absentee ballot casting my vote in favor of animal rights. Pretty bad when farm animal rights are so low that this even has to be an issue. I can't go vegetarian cuz I enjoy eating meat too much but I can at least buy organic free range products and vote in favor of legislation for more humane treatment of animals.
Voting yes on this one.
Bump.
Yes, please do vote yes. For all you meat eaters out there just consider this...What you consume is the frustration and anguish of an animal who suffered its whole life. If you must eat earth's creatures, at least let it be of an animal that had the small ability to roam around a bit before D-day.
Thanks all!

i only wish this measure would also ban the use of antibiotics in stock feed. the effect of the livestock industry's wholesale use of antibiotics today has only served to accelerate the mutation of resistant strains of bacteria. since resistance genes can carry over between different strains, it'll only be a matter of time before all bacteria is resistant to antibiotics. we are wasting away this gift of nature on higher-productivity industrial farming and if things don't change we will all live to regret it!

First off I'm going to say that this thread is about a proposition on the upcoming ballot that a few of us support. Some people like to hijack threads to spew ignorant propaganda about insects and a non existent food chain while at the same time throwing out their views on abortion. Free speech still exists so by all means, go for it.
Anyway, I'm glad to see some highly educational posts here. Thank you hooj1 for the wake up call. And all this time I thought my veganism and activism was helping our planet. Seeing as how I'm at the "top" of the food chain, I guess I should head over to McDonalds for my 99 cent heart attack on a bun. I won't worry too much how it came to me or the resources involved to make this delicious treat come to fruition. I'll forget that the factory farms employ more illegal aliens than any other industry, have one of highest on the job injury rates than any other industry and create more pollution than all the automobiles in the world combined. I'm going to forget that for every pound of beef, a cow needs to consume 16 pounds of grain...that amount of grain could feed over 40 people yet 840 million people are still going hungry. These are all things I really shouldn't care about as an American though. Instead I'm going to care about who Britney Spears is dating and how my stock portfolio is doing. Those are far more important issues.
Sorry if I offended anyone but these are real issues that most care not to think about. Lobbyists spend millions every year to take your mind of this very issue. It's corporate greed at its best and I personally do all that I can to not support it. Buy organic and local whenever possible and just think a little. It doesn't hurt. I promise.
i love animals, they taste delicious

Seeing as how "illegal aliens" are not a race, it cannot be a "racist term". My statement is true and by forcing this information into the limelight, perhaps people may take notice that workers (illegally residing in the country or not) are being exploited for small wages and poor conditions. Do you honestly think that my terminology was meant to be a prejudice stab? I mean seriously? Here I am concerned with the planet's eco system, world hunger, factory farming etc...and you are to assume that I'm not for human rights as well? Get real man. If the term "illegal aliens" offends you, get over yourself. I was an "illegal alien" for many years before I became a citizen of this country and I have no problem with this term at all.
Open your eyes a bit and see the big picture before you take a stab at a term you think is not "politically correct".
