guys, I love reading all the technical information on here. but, i would love to understand it in greater detail, any suggestions on books, manuals, etc i dont really have the time for a course unfortuntaley, so any information is great.

any suggestions most appreciated.

I suspect that somebody will mention How to Make a Noise by Simon Cann. I bought the book a few weeks ago and I've read about 35-40% of it. I wish the book was a little more newb-friendly and took the time to explain certain things (rather than taking for granted that the reader already understands them). I find it a tad confusing. Either way, many people have recommended it over at KVR. I plan to get back to reading it soon.

A lot of this stuff you can learn on your own though, fiddling with DAW's, synths and reading up on it online. I found it best just to head to my local book store, skim through and take notes.

I have both "The Trance Experience" and the "Production Mixing/Mastering w/Waves" books/DVDs (otherwise, I wouldn't have recommended them now, would I? ) Anyway, they're both good books and a good way to get going on mixing. They come with a demo of the Waves Diamond Bundle and the project and audio files for all the major DAWs. The two books have a lot in common, but the biggest differences are in their focus.

The Trance Experience goes deeper into trance (duh!) and focuses on techniques specifically for EDM. The book and project files are all based on mixing one song, but there are multiple remixes, each with their own chapter, so there's a consitency there and you learn a bit about remixing.

Mixing/Mastering w/Waves is a more balanced book and better for learning a wide variety of mixing techniques for different genres (dance, RnB, rock, country, etc.). It also has a good section on mastering. The only drawback (for me, at least) was having that @#$*ing country song stuck in my head for a week.

Seriously, though, both books are great and give you hands-on experience. Also, with either book you'll actually learn more about techniques that are transferable to any audio processors than you will about Waves products, so either book is a very good investment regardless of which DAW/effects you use. HTH.

thanks heaps for that, when i get some time i will lookinto it more. i agree i found that with the trance experience it relates to specific programs and thought that that may become a problem, tho in most cases most sequencers such cubase and logic etc are very similar and can be applied in many areas.
