iPod to iTunes/Computer

My old computer is dust and all my music is on it.

That being said, I luckily have all my music on my iPod and now I am looking for a FREE way to transfer my music back to PC/iTunes.

I have googled a bit but haven't found anything good.

Any suggestions?

stop buying apple products.

I'm having trouble with this too....I'm starting to think you cant transfer songs from ipod to computer....

you can't.

enjoy your mp3 player that is 2 times the price with half of the functions.

Disaster Recovery

So you have a nice big 160GB iPod with your entire media library loaded onto it, synchronizing automatically with your iTunes library, when suddenly the unthinkable happens Your computers hard drive decides that its been spinning for long enough, and gives up on you.

You now suddenly find yourself in the position where your only copy of your music library is on your iPod itself, and you need to get those tracks back off the iPod onto your computer, so you can rebuild your iTunes library.

In a situation where youve been using automatic synchronization with your iTunes library, and you suddenly find you no longer have an iTunes library to sync with, there are a couple of additional considerations that are important to keep in mind.

Automatic iPod synchronization from iTunes is, for the most part, a one-way experience. Some information does come back in the other direction, such as ratings and play counts, but the bottom line is that iTunes considers the library on your computer to be authoritativemeaning that the iPod mirrors the iTunes library, rather than the other way around.

The unfortunate downside to this is that if you have an empty iTunes library on your computer, an iPod that is automatically syncing to it will happily mirror the content of your empty library. In other words, everything on the iPod will be deleted and replaced with, well nothing.

The good news, however, is that this is only really a problem if youre actually using the same library as you were syncing with before. iTunes is intelligent enough to notice when an iPod that you connect was previously associated to a different iTunes library database, and prompt you with a warning as to what you want to do next:

If you are trying to recover your music from your iPod, you obviously do not want to select Erase and Sync. Simply click Cancel instead, and your iPod will remain connected to your computer, but the auto-sync process will not run.

So what about those situations where you are connecting your iPod to your existing iTunes library? For example if you accidentally deleted a few tracks from your main iTunes library that you want to recover from your iPod. In this case, the iTunes automatic sync will run without notification since its the same library database. Fortunately, iTunes offers a solution for this as well: Simply hold down the SHIFT+CTRL keys (on Windows) or CMD+OPT keys (on a Mac) while you are connecting your iPod to your computer. Keep holding these keys down until your actually see your iPod show up in the iTunes source list. This will prevent iTunes from running any kind of automatic sync when it detects the iPod, but the iPod will again remain connected and ready to work with.

don't believe the hype folks, and when you spend on a gadget research to find that you are not paying more for inferior products that look pretty.

Yes you can but you just have to search google

Transfer Ipod files to computer and keep looking until you found it. I found it once but I cant remember the website. Its a setting in Itunes that disables automatic upload to your Ipod right when you plug it in.

Posted by elFreak on Oct-16-2008 16:22:

you can do that by plugging it into any different computer and clicking cancel to the pop up you get.

i remember once finding this thing on google that didn't exist so hard that the hypothetical nature of this solution was enough to make me buy an i river.

things you pay more for should be easier to troubleshoot, especially considering the majority of the people who buy this stuff do it as victims of advertising/want to have the cool toy everyone else has/omg it matches my purse yet i have no clue what it does.

they usually are the same people that think DRM is something that is in cough syrup.

Download the free version of this and use it once to back up everything back onto your computer

Or this

BTW I have a Creative ZEN and it works a hell of alot better than my Ipod ever did. Ipods suck ass.

There are lots of programs that will 'rip' your ipod directly onto your Computer.

I only have one for a Mac so don't ask me for a Windows one.

DRM and the like must die!

Posted by VERTiG0 on Oct-16-2008 20:18:

If the files aren't DRM protected, ie. NOT purchased from iTunes, download CopyPod and use that to get the files onto your PC.

Easy as that.

I had an external drive go and the same thing happened. Its actually pretty easy and you can find it on google.

In short you...

Attach your iPOD to your computer and STOP it from trying to sync your iPOD...this is very important since it will overright your IPOD if you don't.
Then you find the IPOD on your Computer and you will access it like another drive.
You will have to find the music files and basically drop it into your iTUNES.
It will now be organized the way iTUNES does (which I hate but its better than losing your music). You will find some files will be left in some folders with weird names (KJGLGH , etc). You simply have to open those files up in iTunes and it will get sorted.

Check this link out.

Your solution is to download Ephpod. http://www.ephpod.com/

It might be a long and strenuous task, but if your music means that much to you, do it.

Pretty easy do use. Just make sure your iPod doesn't die any time soon.

oh well, I hope it dies anyway!

smart people do not buy ipods.

Link

Took me a while cause I wasn't following instructions perfectly...

But I got it done eventually...

Pretty simple after it's done...

You basically match the new iTunes with the old...Make the ipod think it's still on the old one...
