Best external HDs

Well guys hope you can help me out in this one. Im trying to search for a good external hard drive... the main function that i would use it is to backup data not much multimedia. Im trying to find a hd that is 1. good in size 2. good storage space and transfer speed and 3. one that it isnt too expensive

buy an external enclosure that allows you to put an internal drive in it.

thanks for the idea! i enever really thought of that. most of the external hd that i was looking at were at the mid $200 range. I guess with the enclosure and the HD i can easily spend about $100 for almost the same thing im getting for the one that costs in the mid $200

you can get external 1tb for a little over 100 now. i got a 500gb mybook from western digital and 80gb from lacie and both have lasted with no problems.

Western Digital.

I have the 1TB my book. I have 4 of them stacked on top of each other.

No complaints. It's quick and it works, looks flashy.

My friend has one and he also swears by WD.

Or yeah you could build your own external.

I have a laptop with a single 4pin firewire.

Does anyone use a hdd and a firewire soundcard off the one plug? Does everything still run smoothly?

pricewatch beats a lotta prices...of course it mostly has generic brands, but the price is there if thats all you care about.
