So FL8 is freezing on me when I render

Like the subject says, I rendered an unfinished track, so I can hear it, and next thing I know FL8 is stuck on the rendering window and it's reading 100%.

Not sure how to fix this, can you guys help?

Did change the rendering file settings? Like are you rendering to a 32-bit audio file, when your computer cannot do so? Try changing the rendering file settings.

It froze so even when I click abort, it still sits there. I don't think I've had a problem with the render file settings before.

As for my project, it's gone now, but I'm trying to rework everything since it wasn't much of a project when I started.

haha!! deal with it!

Seriously, I don't mean to joke around but ever since I bought FL 4 years ago it has randomly done this to me too.
The thing is it will actually finish rendering the song and put it where you selected, you just have to shutdown fruity and restart.

I actually think its more vsts than fruity (or certain vsts that affect fruity) but just a theory. Still never found a solution, and I have switched computers (not for this reason) and it still does it which is why I think most people prob have the same issue too.

I never had this problem, but do try rendering at different bit rates, or check if some vst could be the problem by rendering some separate patterns.

My Fruity is always freezing when I have to enter my product serial... Never found out why that happens so I always have to do it in another sequencer.

yeah fruity is a pain in the ass so try unstalling it then reinstalling.
this often works well for me anyway.

Posted by BshidoHEAT on Oct-19-2008 22:11:

I think it maybe caused by some VST's, in my projects that I had froze on my I had Sytrus/DX10/SimSynth all running at the same time.

I just exported a bunch of random things that didn't use any of those synths.

But why would FL8 freeze on it's own synths?

Posted by Owsey on Oct-20-2008 00:01:

Exact same thing used to happen to me when I used FL. I lost some projects I had spent a long time on too I couldn't take a risk like that, which was one of the reasons why I switched to Ableton!

you may want to try saveing your synth patterns first to wav. if this works ok then at least yo know anthing worth saving is safe and can be used at any time.

Just for the record I notice little problems like this have gotten worse and worse as my vst folder has got bigger and bigger over the years.
Silverbox (acid synth) was one vst (that I love) but till this day gives Fruity a seizure about every minute that is open.
V-Station causes FL for me to freeze briefly for about 5 seconds, than I get control back. Happens maybe every 10mins V-station is open.
The TB404 bassline synth (native to fruity) has been known to complete shutdown Fruity when I'm in the middle of a project, + some other antares fx plugins as well.

This is my BIGGEST issue with Fruity, but I understand Fruity was working pretty much near perfect before I decided to go whore it out with vsts. Except for the bassline synth which has always been an issue.
One thing I do now like clock work is everytime I make a change I'm not willing to lose, I just keep resaving the project.
Oh and also loading soundfonts (randomly, not specific fonts) will cause a random freeze and shutdown.

It also *may be an issue with my harddrive according to my brother whos a computer wiz, my last harddrive actually fried so theres a history there.

Posted by Icone on Oct-25-2008 12:19:

Yeah the V-Station was one of the synths that caused me problems too in the past, as FL would crash 90% of the time when I opened up a project that had that VST in it.

I remember addressing this issue to both FL and Novation, but none of them would really try to help me out and were basically blaming one another of compatibility issues.
I don't have this problem anymore though with more recent versions of both FL and V-Station so maybe they got it fixed!

Hmmm. No problems for me. I just gone back to fruity on version 8 after a few years in the wilderness trying cubase and logic. I abandoned fruity at version 4. FL8 has considerably grown up IMO and I'm getting better results than with cubase.

Anyway as for freezing, it may be conflicts as suggested but I've had no problems with V-station or bass station. The 32 bit suggestion was a good one, see if any of your hardware will fall out with this.

Could it be that you are just pushing it too hard? Loads of VST's going, loads of effects etc?

Try rendering some of your midi channels to audio then sticking them back into fruity. You can save processor power if you render it with the effects on it as well as you can then shut these down. The only ballache is you will have to mix it again.

*bump*

I finally found out what happened.

I turned off/unplugged my midi keyboard while it was on in FL Studio. My track continued to render, but after that was done, it just froze.

A bit clumsy of me? Yes
A bit anti-climatic? Most definitely.

Sounds like that *may have been the problem for you.
But this has actually happened to me at least a handful of times, and I don't remember ever turning my keyboard off or on during the process.

So hopefully thats what it was, but I still think I'll randomly have the issue untill I change something major (computer or new FL version comes out) Luckily it doesn't happen enough to drive me crazy, just enough to make it bothersome.

I'm using the demo version, so that's a no go. But I know what happened so it's all good now.

Yeah but working with vocals or audio is a royal pain.

You a legal person, non scene poor all of the above or it doesn't matter.

Once upon a time image line gave me a free copy ---- I ended up later buying a copy.

The story is more amusing than that... but I was never notified my license was revoked on the free copy.

Trust me, save at all times. It takes away the frustration of when the mofo crashes.

No real money at the moment, although hopefully I'll get some cash by christmas. I used to use a pirated version of FL4 though, but that computer crapped out on me.

part the reason im trying to learn logic.

Posted by airwalker1 on Dec-13-2008 16:27:

just save and render as you go and yeah you gotta love logic for that automatic save funthion

Posted by dee-c on Dec-13-2008 17:01:

Happend to me a few times when ive ran out of "Virtual Memeory"

tis a nuscence as it doesnt let me abort either, i have to (Ctrl, Alt Delete" it then end the process... have to make sure theres plenty of back up files of the project saved aswell to make sure youve not lost your file ones corrupt

I've been pushing myself hard to learn Logic this week and once I got over that first hump where I couldn't assign everything to the mixer the way I wanted (instruments, insert effects, sends, busses, etc...) it has been a dream.
