you will need headphones, speakers, and music no matter what. if you want to use your computer then get a midi controller and mixing software. if you want to use cds and/or vinyl then get cd players/turntables and a mixer. as far as cost, computer is the cheapest assuming you already have a computer that can handle the software. vinyl is the most expensive.

i went with a combination of vinyl + computer software. but that's only because i love vinyl.

Have a look into Traktor scratch or Serato. Best of both worlds.

all the best trance bands rout their guitar hero controllers through their wii's from their macbooks into an m-audio interface to germinate on a time-coded dj disc in order to rectify the trance in any given situation at the current juncture at hand.

Trust me, when the notes hit at the intersections under the tandem ritual points you generally get good peak-time trance. Sensation White 2003 shit. You know. You know. optimum

Also of note: be sure to read the fine print when acquiring your trance dj license (which if you weren't aware, you must acquire a license to be a trance dj through your local government office due to fears of drug-filled raves). In the fine print it clearly states that within 2 years if becoming a licensed trance jock you will in fact develop type 2 diabetes. No exceptions.
