unwanted promotions

Recently at my work i've been steered towards bigger and better things.
i got a raise and bosses are noticing me.

the only problem is i dont like what i have to do these days. i used to just sit at my desk and do my job around co-workers that i like. Now i'll be lucky if i get to sit at my desk for 10 minutes.

i duno if any of you have similar stories, but i dont know wtf to do...i know i should just be happy for the opportunities that i get, but ffs i just want to sit.

If you're just wanting to be a lazy slug, you should just build a little house out of cardboard downtown.

What do you do?

Depends on how important the money and ability to reference better positions for future jobs is to you.

Are you even able to step down to your former position? If not, you may as well stick around and see how you feel about it in the longer-term.

Quit being a lazy moron? Be happy that you're moving up? I don't know, something like those suggestions that will make you a productive member of society other than a wastebasket both sound like something you should do.

It's a necessary step towards the ultimate sitting, Brad.

Also, this.

The further up you are, the more 'sitting around telling people what to do' you'll be able to do later in life. SO don't be lazy, take this opportunity, move up and see where it takes you. You wont get anywhere by having this attitude and the only sitting you'll be doing is on your moms couch. YOUR MOM.

See, listen to Lira and Frenchie, they have a nicer way of putting it. I'm just out to bite tonight.

Posted by Frenchie on Oct-20-2008 03:32:

I added the "your mom" for biting purposes. I can bite.

i guess...but nobody has ever felt pressured by their company to do something you don't want to do? i dont mean like come in on saturday...but i mean 'move to this department...it's more money AND you could get an even bigger promotion in the future!!'kinda shit.

Posted by shaw on Oct-20-2008 03:32:

how does one move up in the world of fixing Xboxes?

Posted by Frenchie on Oct-20-2008 03:33:

It's called the real world, and I guess you're FINALLY getting a taste of it. No job is perfect and everyone, at one point, is faced with some sort of ultimatum. You also have the option of leaving, but that would mean you're a pussy. :/

i love how my promotions are predetermined for the first 4 years of my job

Roll with it. Think of the long-term benefits and suck it up.

^ lol.

If you're this whiny about work NOW, I'd hate to know how you react to an important job/career.
