Hip hop

What has become of it?

I know there are some real artists out there, but they definitely rarely ever make the top 40.

WTF is with these dances?

Posted by Jake Benson on Oct-22-2008 08:07:

The hip-hop turned vocal-smothering-pop-house-dance trend has been going on for over a year now. I think Timbaland set it off officially but shit like Justin Timbapoop's song early helped out a lot.

When Timbaland came out with "The Way We Are" I posted about it in Music forum talking about how it was a trance rip-off, and then I got flamed by Ishkur cuz he thought I was racist and didn't realize how fucking right I was and am. Fucking moron.

At least pop music isn't what it was 10 years ago...that music was just fucking smelly wet fart dildo slapped on rotten shriveled ass awful.

Dammit - I had really wanted to create an "All Time Greatest Hip Hop Records" thread today but now I feel like hip hop will be the next 5! if we have more than one thread on the topic on the main page.

DAMN YOU KRYPTON!

Hip hop is worth furthering discussion, though. You'd only be paralleling the 5! trend by posting a thread that said how much hip hop sucked. And then another one. And then another one in MD.

To the OP, today's popular hip-hop is well summarized by the video you posted. It's currently all about being "fun" and "getting silly"... all disposable club-music with a dancy beat. If you're looking for lyrical and musical depth in Top 40 music, you might want to re-evaluate your source.

There's good hip-hop, it's just not catchy enough for your typical American Myrmidon.
