Invisible Grin Vertical city dubai

Forget the 3,280 feet-high 200-floor Nakheel Tower because it's no longer going to be the highest skyscraper in the world. The new upcoming beast is this amazing 1.55-mile-high skyscraper planned for the Jumeirah City project in Dubai. The building is so tall that its main elevator is in fact a vertical 125mph bullet train. This city-in-a-skyscraper will consume 37,000MWH/year, with a 15MW peak usage, but as the plans show, it has been designed to generate most of it using wind, thermal, and solar power:

it's reasons like this that dubai & the rest of the arab states are a place we should all take in in our lifetime. Well unless we're grooverider.

That's pretty fucking impressive

Is your cousin an oil baron, or a sheik?

Do you fly emirates? Because they're meant to be the 3rd best airline in the world and way above anything we experience on the western ones.

and they fly direct from dubai to malta

This is just a proposal for a building, made in a forum for architects. I don't think any engineer team yet would be good enough to make calculations and build something like that yet. It defies the laws of physics.

Singapore Airlines still holds the airline award for best airline though.

The ambition of those with the money in Dubai means that they'll give it a try at least. Nobody thought they'd be able to do some of their previous works. Only time will tell if this works or not obviously but If anybody can make it happen, these guys can.

perfect moment for me to insert julian's chasers sketch in their depature lounge ? I'm just going by the general opinion of those guys, and the fact they had that hole in the plane this year! We don't really slaughter BA on the same level you do the Qantas.

Where are the cupholders?

LMFAO, you can't rate an airline (or anything!) on what the Chasers say

but it's great to do it that way. I miss their show, the humour is as edgy and funny as the UK was 10 years ago, insulting, non-politically correct and pure funny. Now we're stuck with gervais, catherine tate, little britain type shows when we had the fast show, league of gentlemen, bottom etc.

Yeah, obviously it was a good idea to move most of their maintenance stuff to Asia. Good thinking!

BAM!

"What's that noise?"

Posted by Ian on Oct-23-2008 08:39:

Have you guys been hit by the price of oil for fuel surcharges & shit the same as we have?

Posted by Ian on Oct-23-2008 08:41:

sadly the last 12 months has seen the end of the 2 best trans-atlantic services, simply because they were running at such a low profit margin and once fuel rocketed, they couldn't pay the bills. these were EOS and Silverjet, both business class services that cost only a tiny bit more than economy, and less than some cheap ones from like BA

They moved it to Malaysia Airline's maintenance facility. Their planes haven't exactly been dropping out of the sky have they?

The maintenance isn't the reason you shouldn't fly Qantas. The shithouse customer service however............

And most of the stuff thats been happening with Qantas recently is stuff that happens to other airlines every day. They just don't beat it up like they do with Qantas.

Having said that, their on-time performance dropped from something like 85% to 65% in one month

I don't fly Qantas overseas (AirNZ or Singapore) and I don't have any preferences domestic, I fly whoever is cheapest and has the schedule that fits.

I've never flew on Emirates but if you ever get a chance to fly business class with Singapore Airlines, it's worth it. The Singapore Airlines First Class/Business Class lounge in Singapore's airport here is heaven. Large lounge with a free buffet and bar that beats even some of the best hotels i've been to.

Fuck me that looks sweet. Dubai is where it's at, seriously.

It's still ploughing through strong as an emerging market and is only going to get stronger. That prince who started making these "tourism" based decisions certainly knew what he was doing.

looks like something out of Sim City
