Hello!

Hey This is a difficult topic for me. So I will have to share with you guys. I know what to put but I want yours opinion. It does't care if the trackz are old coz many of the people that will be there dont know much about electronic music:
1> First Tune to open the set (very important):
a> Push - Universal Nation (then I will check the best version. I hear it in the Yves De Rutier Set at Trance NRG 30.09.00).
b> Aria - Dido (AvB Lost Religion Mix)
c> Obviously more trackz accepted ! :=) ...

2> Body of the set (not in particular order):
a> AvB & Tiesto pres. Alibi - Eternity (I-LOVE-THIS-TRACK).
b> Clapton meets Bowlen - Elements (Meteor Seven Rmx)
c> Mekka - DiamondBack (Original Mix)
d> AirWave - Mysteries Of Life (Original)
e> Max Graham - Falling Together (Promo)
f> SOLAR STONE - SEVEN CITIES (V-1 MIX)
G> Marco V - Recovered
h> Marco V - Tolerance
i> Safri Duo - Played-A-Live (A Must)
j> Trance Generators - Connected (Gigi Lav Rmx)
k> Upserver - Talk To Me (Dj Alici Rmx)
l> Rank1 - Many Miles, Too Soon
ll> Ascension - Someone (Slackers & Original Vocal mix)
m> Ian Van Dahl - Castles In The Sky (Absolom Rmx)
n> Binary Finary - 1998 (PVD Rmx)
o> Junk Project - Control
p> Major League - Wonder where you are (DJ Tiesto and Armin present)
q> Mora Trackz Appreciated (PAUL OAKENFOLD ONES PLS ).

3> Ending of the set:
a> Cygnus X - The Orange Theme (Last track from Yves De Rutier at Trance NRG 30.09.00)
b> Rank1 - AirWave (I dont know about this one)
c> Paul Van Dyk - For An Angel (this one is candidate)
d> Need more trackz here. It's bery poor. And at the beggining.

I know you are gonna help me with this. Thankx this is the best trance info forum in the internet
VIVA EL TRANCE Y TRANCE ADDICT CARAJO !!!!! :=)

Posted by Jukx on Mar-26-2001 12:28:

Question

Ehhh... but if we give you any ideas how do we know if you have it on vinyl, so that it would be of any use for you????

Posted by Viceroy on Mar-26-2001 12:53:

Wink

Dude, you have to put together a set that you think will take the crowd on a journey. (even though you may only have an hour or so to do that) I like to have a general idea of what my set is going to be before I play out, but as of recently I have been forgetting about what I had planned halfway threw my set. I change it up a bit, to go with the crowd, and control them.
Your playlist looks good, but don't get too hung up on it.

Peace,
Steve

Posted by breakdown on Mar-26-2001 13:30:

never should a playlist be made for a set.. unless theres a special requirement for it.. a "Tiesto" set.. even then.. u shud always keep options open

Posted by skywarp on Mar-26-2001 15:10:

Try not to play too many anthems such as .. well .. most of the tracks you listed. You should reserve these tracks for the climax of your set and play some less epic tunes as the bulk of the set. That way your florfiller track will have an even greater effect on the dancefloor.

And I absolutely agree with the general opinion about not having a pre-planned set. Just go with the vibe (but always know which two tracks you'll play next).

Posted by IbAmbient on Mar-26-2001 16:11:

use your senses

you will know what to do and play when you see AND feel your crowd. that's right YOUR crowd, what you want to do is take them on a journey. they act as the "engine" and you act as the "driver". You must break them down, what I mean by break them down is you have to take them down low and slow, then build them up again with some epic breaks. basically, you will know what to do when your crowd is out in front of you. remember...you have to work for the "nod"...every DJ knows what the "nod" is...late.

Posted by Anscoop on Mar-26-2001 17:56:

Since you need comfirmation on your playlist? I'm guessing this has to be your first time playing for a large crowd, so I suggest you go for a pre-planned set. You won't be the greatest thing on earth, rather nervous actually, so any load that can be taken off you should be, one of them is having a pre-planned set. You just want to go out there and do your best not to screw up and having a pre-planned set that matches right will help you out enormously, you'll get more comfrotable the next times around.

Secondly, part of your character as a DJ is to pick your own set, you shouldn't ask other people, pick what sounds good to you and arrange it in the same way.

One Step up at a time, don't do what other people want/think you should do, listen to advice from more experienced dj's but do what feels right for you.

Cheers

Hey Man ! :=)
I dont want recomendations. I want only your opinions and one or two tunes I maybe be forgetting (I am sure of that. I always forget something)
This is the pre-playlist I am gonna spin.
But I will re-think it again (PlyList)
I want to tale them slow slow slow down and then go up with a great tune
This forums is the best.
I am with Ib AMbient said slow losw down and then build with a great tune, then keep there for a while then slow slow

Nice selection of tracks, though don't put in Safri Duo, it's crap!

Posted by breakdown on Mar-26-2001 19:21:

unless its the Airscape mix of Played Alive of course..

Posted by Paul Wilson on Mar-26-2001 19:35:

Airscape mix is quite good, thought the original is utter bollocks!

Posted by emerica on Mar-26-2001 19:41:

i agree with paul wilson. airscape remix is very good.

Posted by Sm0keMachine on Mar-26-2001 21:38:

Hey the tracklist is good.. but there are some old tracks there which I wouldn't want to hear in a club like Rank1 - Airwave, 1998 and For an Angel.. Those tracks are great, but they are sooo overplayed..
I reccomend you to play the track
'Flutlicht-Icarus(Daedalus Mix)' ( which you can get in this site ) I just listenned to it and it's fu**ing awesome..I'm sure the crowd will love it. Good luck

Posted by Linx_da_cat on Mar-26-2001 21:57:

airscape never ceases to live up to it's standard. making a cruddy sounding track sound incredibly good. love them.

Posted by djzero2k on Mar-26-2001 22:16:

See. what happens here is that the people that are going to hear me don't know much about Trance. But I have just decide to put the NEWEST and BEST stuff I have. I will leave those trackz I will select carefully what I am gonna spin.
I am definitely gonna include:
1> Safri Duo - Play-A-Live (AirScape)
2> Solar Stone - Seven Cities (V-1 Mix)
3> Future Breeze - Mind In Motion (Original)
4> Mekka - DiamondBack (Original)
5> Ian Van Dahl - Castles In The Sky (Wippenberg Mix)
6> Voodoo & Serrano - Blood Is Pumpin (Mmm Don't know... Maybe no).
7> FludLicht - Icarus (Original Mix)
8> Max Graham - Falling Together (Promo)
9> AirWave - Mysteries Of Life
10> Push - Universal Nation (I wasn't into trance so I don't know if this track is well known in my town. I will try and I am gonna spin it coz I love it)

Hope you agree with this "yes or yes" playlist ! :=)
One Thing: I am keen on Melodic Trance. So that's why I look for this type of songs. But I also LOVE progressive.

Posted by Linx_da_cat on Mar-26-2001 22:25:

that's right. it shouldn't matter if they don't know about the good or bad stuff. the point is to spin well and have a good track selection. it's what djing is all about. spinnin' well for the crowd no matter what kinda crowd that may be. the better your track selection, the more convinced these people are going to be that this music rocks. more people converted to trancEaddicts.

It all depends on where you live... I have been to lots of trance parties and trance club nights here in the Victoria, BC, Canada, where most trance is NOT mainstream and still relatively underground... I have NEVER heard Airwave, 1998 or For an Angel at ANY event I have been to, so in this area they ARE NOT overplayed. I think a lot of DJs take their music a little too seriously (not that this is necessarily a bad thing) and aren't willing to play any well-known anthems. Obviously some of them are overplayed on compilations and mixed CDs, but that doesn't mean cuz people might have it on CD they shouldn't be played at parties. Most people (including me) LOVE to hear tracks that they recognize, so DJs shouldn't go to the other extreme and ONLY play unknown underground tracks.

Personally I would LOVE to hear some of my personal favourite anthems at parties sometimes... so far the only big well known anthems I have heard at parties here have been Freefall - Skydive (once), Robert Miles - Children (once or twice), Bedrock - Heaven Scent (once), Kernkraft 400 - Zombie Nation (a few times), Delerium - Silence (a few times) and maybe a few others, but that's all I can remember right now... Normally, we don't hear many well known anthems here. Most Trance DJs (at least here) prefer playing more underground less-known tracks (or at least not the anthems), but DJs shouldn't be afraid to throw in the occasional anthem (most of them are anthems for a reason - cuz they are awesome tracks)

DJs should also remember that not everyone is as well-versed in the music as they are. They should be playing to the crowd and not ONLY for themselves or fellow DJs or the few people there that are as well-versed in the music as they are. I'm sure that many tracks that are considered anthems and overplayed in other places, like Europe, many people here have rarely or never even heard and would not even recognize them at a party.

Sorry if I'm ranting here, but I'm dissapointed with a lot of the trance I've been hearing lately at parties, especially a party I went to here last Saturday where most of the music was fairly bland and boring (minimal and bass heavy) without many good builds or breakdowns... It was mostly the type of music that in my opinion does NOT make good party music. Sure some great tracks were played, but in my opinion it was more suitable for listening in your car or at home or work rather than at a party... There was also a complete lack of cheesy stuff, which isn't always a bad thing or even necessary... But, It can really help get the crowd into it and pumped up... Altho, even some of the best progressive anthems with great builds are not cheesy at all... There's lots of great trance out there and I'm just not hearing it on a regular basis, except from a few good DJs.

I can't complain about all the parties I've been to though... I've also heard some great progressive epic trance. About a month ago, I went to a party where Scott Stubbs (from Las Vegas) spun an incredibly uplifting set of hard fast progressive trance. I didn't recognizing barely any tracks from that set, some of which sounded anthemic and could have very well been anthems that I'm not familiar with or just really awesome new underground music, so either way it can be done...

I guess I'm ranting more about too much bland (non-party)trance at parties and not enuff of the much preferred uplifting progressive/epic trance, regardless of whether the tracks are well known anthems or underground gems.

Cool

Hmm, as a DJ I'd build a set which makes you fly. It doesn't matter if you use some older classics/anthems in it since the overall feeling, upliftance and euforia is the thing you are after. Generally one should use a fair amount of new stuff also but always keep on eye on the 'flow' of the set. If you design your playlists with trancEaddicts, other DJs and fanatics who know everything about the scene in mind, you might end up with a set which is very boring or weird in the ears of some regular party-goer since you are very likely to avoid all that good stuff you have heard a million times (but they haven't).

Don't think trance as just single songs... parts songs are just the elements you use to build up a dreamtrip. Choose the best ones (parts) for your journey and ignore what they are called.

i know shit about crafting the perfect set, but i believe he
>> http://formen.ign.com/news/32608.html << knows what hes talking about. so check him out (not trance necessarily but the ideas carry over well). peas.

Thumbs up A MUST HAVE!!!

I think you forgot to put in in Armin Van Buuren - Communication
A must have song to get the crowd reallly moving during the middle of your set.

Posted by Twilogoddess on Mar-27-2001 15:22:

I think u should get rid of Castles in the Sky. It's cheese & its on the radio in the US. Ppl go to parties to hear NEW muzik. There is nothin wrong w/including classics but ur orginal set was old anthems.

Posted by mizzuno on Mar-27-2001 15:30:

90% of the people in the USA have no clue whats a classic and whats new.....

Hey..

I dunno how you want the overall feel of your set to be - progressive or uplifting... but... see what the crowd is more into.. the tracks ya got there are good just be careful when you jump between progressive & uplifting & back..etc.

have fun

Smile

I agree with everybody here, just get a feel for the crowd but if your crowd is into anything mainstream then give them Public Domain - Operation Blade. Yeah yeah i know its overplayed but the majority of the people out there love it and i guarantee you that they'll dance!
