Trancestep

Seriously love this fucking stuff.

Throw some sets my way if you know of any!

I only rediscovered my copy of John B's trance 'n' bass the other week, since then. Woo!

Sick tracks.

What the fuck is Trancestep? I haven't come across that term, heard of Electrostep.

Melodic dubstep maybe?

And John B's Mixmag CD is still one of my all time favourite compilation albums, it's quality .

Is it Trancestep? Sounds like melodic D&B to me.

Posted by Lunar Phase 7 on Oct-27-2008 11:34:

Yup, pretty much.

It's sick music none the less.

Tunages.

Posted by daphunky1 on Oct-27-2008 18:41:

So if its melodic dnb.... why call it trancestep??

Posted by Lunar Phase 7 on Oct-27-2008 18:49:

Because that's what it is refered to by some sites/mixes I have come across so far.

It also sums up the kind of music it is better than melodic drum n bass.

Melodic house != trance.

therefore melodic drum and bass != trancestep.

This has nothing to do with trance, really.

You're quite right. But it has everything to do with trancestep.

There's no such thing. Throwing "trance" into every genre doesn't make it cool. Next you'll have trance-hop and trancemetal.

Posted by Geoffb3 on Oct-27-2008 21:42:

LOL ... ya no!

all that is melodic dnb

ugh sub genres

Agreed, Trancestep is the most accurate definition.

Posted by Viber on Oct-28-2008 00:35:

Nah, its just Drum And Bass...if this is Trancestep than Good Looking Records early stuff is Progressive House-Step

I've completely given up on genres, I always end up offendin someone whenever I mention one. And they change from year to year anyway

You've got to be kidding me.
Why is it that trance just 'somehow' falls into virtually every genre?
Who 'pioneers' these silly subgenre names? I think it's thrown into genre mixes more often than the word progressive.

Posted by Meat187 on Oct-28-2008 13:51:

It's time somebody starts producing minimalstep. Or Donkstep. Or Whistlestep. Or Kaosstep. Or Stepstep.

Posted by kitphillips on Oct-28-2008 14:19:

What I love is how so much trance has become prog, while so much prog has become tech house, and meanwhile, all this tech house has become hardcore techno for 3 am. People have such funny ideas about genres IMO

StepStep wins.

Good stuff this, been a fan since John B's Trance & Bass mixmag CD some years ago.

But why genre merge? Just call it D n'B thats its main structure, it just happens to be melodic.

Also referred to sometimes as Nu-electro. But to me this was just electro with updated production methods and should not have included the melodic D n'B tracks.

For the sake of your souls check out TeeBee - 'Severed Dreams' Soooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo good. In fact the whole 'Through the eyes of a scorpion' album is good.

I can google a lot of nonsense and find results. If people have thrown together catch words to name something, it doesn't mean they're right nor that you have to be a sheep about it.

I love how people criticise a genre without any background info.

Trancestep is simply the bastard child of neurofunk with epic trance. It's not related to Atmospheric Drum'n'Bass or Liquid Funk, both being melodic genres in their own right, so the name "melodic drum'n'bass" is not only inaccurate but also confusing.

Paul B is by far my favourite trancestep producer, although he's never really abandoned neurofunk. Ill.skillz is also an interesting name to look for. Although Concord Dawn is not a trancestep act, check them out: they often draw some influences from trance in general, and their music is energetic as hell.
