What you call electronic music

I was just wondering...like when ur talking to people who don't listen to trance or any type of electronic music...and they ask you what kind of music do u liste to? What do you say? Like cuz i know some people just call all electronic music techno, some people say electronic music....what do you say?

Most people wont understand the phrases Uplifting Trance, Progressive, Deep etc...
So I just say
Electronic

If someone asks me and I say "Trance" they usually reply "Oh, you mean Alice Deejay" to which I laugh and say "No". I don't bother with explanations anymore. Its pointless.

i think it depends where you live, over here i say trance and everyone knows what it is (even if they do think its alice deejay )

Mainly just techno. Like some people have said already when they start saying Oh yeah like (name of something that is most definitely NOT techno)? Then I just say....not really, i guess youd have to hear it. People just dont understand...so sad

not many people where i live enjoy the fruits of electronica (oo that sounded professional :P) and just think of cheese, so usally to piss them off (they always want me to listen to shit, i don't even know what it is) so ill say hard house or dirty trance and they won't haev a fuckingclue what i mean, so they get confused and walk away. to friends i usally end up explaining each genre iminto and why the other ones suck

But what really piss me off is that a lot of people consider all electronic music as 'techno'... I can't understand this, it's so ignorant!

I call it techno #1 because a lot of people generalize and call it that and #2 becuase im not gonna walk around saying electronica like a (fill in name of something distasteful here). Its like instead of calling a spider a spider, you walk around calling it an arachnid or something. Electronica is the technical name, and most people dont bother being that technically precise

i actually do bother being that precise most of the time. its just a lot easier for people in general to understand the term electronica than it is for them to understand trance or breaks or downtempo or whatever... but when im with friends who know what im talking abot i refer to the subgenre directly not just electronica.
