CDJS In Cold Weather

Hi, I'm supposed to play a halloween party tomorrow in my friend's backyard and it's supposed to dip to around freezing maybe 1 or 2 degrees higher at night..... is it safe to have my two 800's out there for 4-5 hours?

If you're using them i see no reason why the heat they generate on their own wont keep them warm enough..

Though having said that. Look for an online manual and search within for the recommended operating temperatures..

I'd do it for you but i'm off to bed..

get a space heater for the dj booth, problem solved

A while back my CDJ's fucked up because of the weather. I took them to a club. It was freaking hot inside, but outside was really cold. When the club was over, I immediately got my CDJ's and put them in my car, which was cold.

I took them from hot weather to cold weather, condensation happened, and BAM! I had to get them fixed.

actually we are planning on having a few heaters scattered around and it's a pretty cool concept... a few of my friends are trying to start up this snowboarding team so we're having a railjam in the backyard for halloween and I get to supply the beats

It's pretty cool though, 16 foot rail plus the kicker and they're gonna film it all so i might post a video perhaps if it goes down nicely hahahaha... thx boys

Nice!

About a year and a half ago I did a wakeboarding railjam down here that was a lot of fun. Get ready to bring the energy!

Hahahaah got over 100 people confirmed in this guy's backyard... and it's my first gig lol. Oh well, people will definitely be way too fucked up to care and it isn't exactly an elitist TA critic type group lol, they don't know what a good mix is hahahaha so I can get away with lots. Should be looooots of fun I went yesterday to check out the spot and it looks awesome, I'll try and get some pics up. The guy even set up a camera on the roof to film the wholething, got spotlights lighting the place up, couple speakers and a sub, and he's got a video feed hooked up from the camera to the basement so if people get too cold, head on down to the basement and you can see the comp. on a projection screen.... raelly dope. plus the beats will be fed to the basement as well

Well for Igloofest last year the temperature was at least -10 C, so I'm sure all will be in order. The question is, will YOU be ok in the cold

No worries the beer shall warm me up nicely I'm sure

josh wink spins vinyl and the rest used laptops.

condensation will fuck up a cdj very fast. Keep them dry.

they were also rotating gear so that they would not mess up

Posted by Tony Morello on Oct-31-2008 18:31:

yup, condensation is a bitch

Posted by Monocle on Oct-31-2008 18:52:

How the shit would condensation form? How do I avoid this?

Posted by elFreak on Oct-31-2008 18:52:

heat from the cdj's vs cold air forms liquid.

i would say put your cdj's in the freezer, but we know how that would end up.

if you value your gear and are not getting paid i personally would not try this, but that is me.

Just take the discs out if you let them sit. Condenstation from rapid change in temperature will fuck up your CDJs

Just went down.... never got toooooo too cold. Played for a solid 6 hrs for my first gig and little to no technical fuckups.... was a really fun ass night we'll see if I can get some pics or video for you guys. Surprisingly some of the crowd recognized some tunes... hahaha made some new friends i guess.

I take it you didn't read the part in the manual which deals with how to fix condensation, "Woody"?

Posted by T-Soma on Nov-02-2008 17:11:

I'm surprised no-one quoted the manual/specs

quote:
Operating temperature..................................... +5 C to +35 C
Operating humidity................................................. 5 % to 85 %
(There should be no condensation of moisture.)

quote:
Condensation
When this unit is brought into a warm room from previously cold surroundings or when the room temperature rises sharply, condensation may form inside the unit and impair its performance. In such cases, allow the unit to stand for about an hour or raise the room temperature gradually.
