AntiSpyware XP 2009 (beware)

Don't fall for this scam. I just fell completely for it. I now need to change my debit card numbers and everything.

quote:
What this programs does:

XP Antispyware 2009 is a rogue anti-spyware program from the same family as XP Antivirus 2008. Just like its predecessor, XP AntiSpyware 2009 is advertised and promoted through the use of fake online anti-malware scanners and malware that displays fake security alerts on your computer. Both the online scanners and the malware state that your computer is infected and that you should download and install XP Antispyware 2009 in order to clean and protect your computer.

If you decide to install XP Antispyware 2009 it will configure itself to run automatically when your computer starts. It will also install a variety of files on your computer that act as fake malware so that the program will find them while scanning. These files are:

c:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\boveketuz.inf
c:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\duvuja.lib
c:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\koqisybi.bat
c:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\ucozoma.reg
c:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Documents\jyxigifo._sy
c:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Documents\ysix._dl
%UserProfile%\Application Data\mepa.com
%UserProfile%\Cookies\guwysa.dat
%UserProfile%\Cookies\sasu.bat
%UserProfile%\Local Settings\Application Data\jyxot.dl
%UserProfile%\Local Settings\Application Data\mivekely._sy
%UserProfile%\Local Settings\Application Data\pozik.vbs
%UserProfile%\Local Settings\Application Data\wosi.vbs
c:\Program Files\Common Files\gykyr.bat
c:\Program Files\Common Files\ogumy.lib
c:\Program Files\Common Files\uwolykiw.com
c:\WINDOWS\akikuvopa.dll
c:\WINDOWS\lydumyhery.scr
c:\WINDOWS\radimup.lib
c:\WINDOWS\toli.pif
c:\WINDOWS\system32\_scui.cpl
c:\WINDOWS\system32\oxatymy.dl

Once XP Antispyware is started, it will automatically start scanning your computer and list a variety of infections that cannot be removed unless you first purchase the program. These infections will consist of legitimate files and Registry entries as well as the above fake malware files that XP Antispyware installed. Remember, though, that the above files are not real malware and cannot harm your computer.

While the program is running, you may also find that your computer starts to become slower. This is because the program is constantly running in the background and using up your computer's resources that other legitimate programs should be using. XP Antispyware will also occasionally display fake security alerts stating that your computer is infected and that you should purchase the program in order to protect yourself. Images of these fake alerts and of the program can be found below.

Yea, both me and my mom tried to buy, so now we both have to change our cards. I'm trying to get this thing off. Tried downloading Windows Defender, but it says I'm not authorized to use it, even though I validated I have a good copy of XP. So now, I downloaded Adaware, and hopefully it'll work. Scanning right now...

Really pisses me off, because I built this computer myself, and to have it fucked up like this is like getting your car tires slashed.

Sounds a bit suss man.

LMFAO

So, before installing ANY software, something (somewhere) told you that your computer was infected with viruses (virii?), and you not only installed their software, but you gave them your credit card details?

Edit: You mum too?

Oh man, i gotta get back into the scamming biz, THERE IS HOPE!

I would just reinstall windows if I was you, at this point its much easier.

2 programs you need to download, "Exterminate it" and "SUPERAnti spyware free addition".

I had a similar virus, it was fairly easy to get rid of. Exterminate It won't remove the files, but there is a part on the website that tells you how to do it manually.

I dunno about that. I tried to update my free AVG software a few months back and ended up having to buy it. The free version is now only a trial for a 6o days or so.

What version are you/were you running? Support for 7.5 stopped, I believe, which could lead you to believe you need to pay. You can downloan 8.0 for free. I'm running it now, and I get free daily updates as I have for some time.

Posted by XaNaX on Oct-31-2008 11:06:

lol I've seen the popup for that Antivirus XP and I'll give the pricks that wrote it some credit, when you get the popup they have done a nice job making it look like it is a MS Windows program so I can only imagine how many people are falling for this given that there are plenty of morons that click on popups that had no effort at all put into them.

Posted by Zoso on Oct-31-2008 11:12:

If you're not doing so, I would also recommend that you create a limited user account from which you do all your web browsing and basic activities. This will keep your processes in Windows from running with full administrative privileges. In the event that you do need to run a program as admin, simply right-click the shortcut and select "run as". Then you can choose to run that particular program as admin.

Of course like as ass I'm assuming we're talking XP here, amirite?

Posted by Fpcookie on Oct-31-2008 12:57:

hahaha you're duller than i thought

Posted by itsamemario on Oct-31-2008 14:33:

wait.. you built your own computer but you cant tell if a popup is a scam/malware/fuckshit?

owned
