Is there a way to get around this?

Viewing a website, then a 'this site is brought to you by...' ad pops up, and you have to wait a few secs to click the 'skip this ad' link to view the original page once again.

I use Firefox BTW.

The ad blocker works nicely--thank you.

Also, for anybody who is interested in learning how to disable Windows' annoying auto-play feature when a CD/DVD is inserted into the drive go here--> http://www.annoyances.org/exec/show/article03-018

I mention it simply because I just disabled that feature.

Remember kids, if everyone blocked every ad on every site you wouldn't have many sites to visit.

its the future of advertising.....more and more companies are spending more money with internet ads because people don't watch TV ads as much anymore. PVRing is eliminating people watching TV ads so expect to see more pop ups in the future.

But smart marketers will realize we block web ads just as much as commercials.

Smart marketers will realize mass marketing is dead and will focus on one-to-one.

Smart indeed, which is why they've been doing it since oh, 2000 or so. The proliferation of spam, spyware and tracking cookies is the epitome of direct marketing. Even the majority of web ads you see (or don't see) are context-sensitive, which is far less "mass" than the old-school.

I block a lot of web ads too, but let's not go down the rabbit hole of blaming marketers for harassing us and corporations for gouging us, and just admit that we're exploiting the system. Ad revenue has proven to be the best (perhaps only) sustainable economic model for the web, and even with a .1% conversion rate they're still doing better than they would be sending out junk mail or farming out telemarketing to a call centre. The amount of click-through may be miniscule, but there are millions of eyes on them and they cost peanuts to run.

If you block web ads, you are most likely not their target market anyway. Until I see companies like Google going out of business, I'm going to assume that they're pretty smart.

Not to mention that statistically, TV ads still bring in the most revenue, and those are pure mass marketing. And don't say you can't block those, because you could just get Tivo, or put together an HTPC and download the eps.

Targeted marketing has been happening for a long time. Duh.

But I was talking about true one-to-one marketing... which does happen, but most companies still shy away from it or still with its traditional maketing approaches.

Pop up ads are not one-to-one marketing.

And I never said mass marketing didn't work... but one-to-one has a much higher conversion and results in more valuable customers.

But whatever, you're just going to come up with something to prove me wrong...

Smart marketers realize that the internet is the most one-to-one marketing channel available (other than personal selling).
