Drone Ambient
I usually like my music frantic and energetic but drone ambient is so dreamy that I don't even care there is no beat. "Stars of the Lid" is by far my favourite group, and there's some great stuff by "Loscil" as well.
Is anyone else into it? Who here knows what the hell I'm talking about?
i love drone.
check out Swarm Of Drones
my fave is David Reeves - Scanners Live In Vain.
really there are a lot stuff out there.
ps
about two years ago i had a mix that had some drone in it. you can find it here.
Yes, Stars Of The Lid are great, so peaceful and organic. I also listen to quite a few more or less similar acts like Windy & Carl, Labradford, Pan-American, Tim Hecker and last but not least pioneers Fripp & Eno. A lot of organic textures, electric guitar drones, the Kranky label etc.
Then i must of course mention other people like Steve Roach, Robert Rich and Vidna Obmana who i view as part of a different school of ambient. While not being strictly drone ambient a lot of their music certainly falls into the category.

Brighter Death Now anyone?
Thanks for the recommendations, guys. I'm going to download that mix later tonight, Orange, and I'm going to check these other artists you all mentioned.
By the way, Gauss, "Brighter Death Now" doesn't really sound like drone ambient. What tunes are you specifically talking about? I listened to a sample on last.fm of "I wish I was a little girl" (or something like that), and it was quite good, but it wasn't really ambient
Pub - Do You Ever Regret Pantomime
somafm is your friend
Also, similar to ambient, I've been getting into a lot of minimalistic ambient neo classical shit (lol at genre definition).
Ryan Teague
Swod
Library Tapes
Hauschka
Deaf Center
lafur Arnalds
Peter Broderick
Balmorhea
Good morning/late at night type of stuff.

He produces dark ambient which often boarders with power electronics (I think), rather creepy music, so I associated it with drone ambient.
Pete Namlook - Seasons greetings (Winter
Windy & Carl's latest new album "Songs For The Broken Hearted".
Highly recommended. ![]()
Last night I fell asleep to a "Marconi Union" album. It is definitely my favorite beatless music.

| Originally posted by Noisician well yeah, that's why i said those were the darker dronescapes. btw, part 2 of 'insomniati' is out now: when you forget you're dreaming and never wake up track #5 is my favorite: http://darkwinter.com/dw051/dw051-K...oings_of_Me.mp3. absolute and utter perfection. |
