Big Ears

K for what i know from CAnada.. a black tatto about the size of 1.5 inch by 1.5 inch.. costs about $40.

prices usualy depend on the size, color, and desing... if there is more then one color.. it will cost more.. if.. you have a harder design.. (meaning one that you have created) you will have to pay for the stencil.. and the paper.. they use... if it's a common design.. like a heart or a moon.. you wont have to pay extra.. but if it's a symbole you drew.. or somthing not so coommon.. ie. THe ukranian symbole.. then ya.. you might have to get a stencil for it.. (which the tattoo place provides)

this i only know from the ppl that have tattoos ...

Hi Tranceaholic,

You sure about the Japanese symbol? Do you have an exact translation for it? I am asking because the symbol might mean "honor" in Japanese, might mean "I like to touch myself" in another language.
What part of CA you in? I live in Tujunga, near Los Angeles and know a great artist. He did a beautiful half sleeve for me.
I am not trying to "flame" you about your tattoo.
Just want you to know that symbols in one culture might mean totally different in another culture.

it was just a thought..i havent decided on a tattoo yet..any ideas or suggestions? and more important how much? i go to uc riverside but i live in diamond bar

The tattoo I want is a rose with a 3 leaf clover lookin thing at the bottom, because Im proud of my english heritage and that is what english crosses looked like in the day, the rose goes up and has 3 leaves for the trinity of father son and holy ghost, 7 thorns for the seven seals, and 7 is a big number in many other things. The rose at the top spreads out into a living cross and has three buds like the english cross theme again. The rose is for my family crest. And there are three dots arrayed in an enlongated triangle formation above the rose for the trinity again. So its the living cross of my family and culture... Just throwin that in, because a lot of people dont think about the things they will be putting on themselves for the rest of their lives... if anyone brings up the whole Christians shouldnt get tattoos thing...well #1 that isnt this topic, start a new one, and #2 I disagree

Hi,

If you want, my artist is located in Pasadena and he is chinese. So he could show you different ideas if you just want a symbol.
Let me know, I'll get you the number tomorrow. Regarding the cost, you pay for quality. I am pretty sure one symbol won't cost that much.

Get a Tribal tattoo! They look sooo cool! like this one:

But maybe a bit smaller

I got the jap character for Heaven/Sky (Tien) on my left arm, and it cost $67 canadian. There is no set rate for tats, the guy just kinda ballparks the amount..unless you are getting a huge tat, then they charge by the hour.

Get something that will mean something to you for the rest of your life. When Ive talked to the people who have tattoos, TONS because this is a life altering thing basically, the only difference between those who still like it and those who wish they never got it was personal meaning. Its very hard for a white suburbanite to have a tribal or oriental symbol mean ANYTHING to them. If hope means something to you, get the word hope tattooed. It took me 3 months of drawing and thinking to get mine, and im really pumped about it. I will always be Christian, be english, and have my family heritage and pride. You dont have to do the same but do you see what im saying? Everyone gets weird crap that looks cool, like this girl I know who was reading a book and it had a cool symbol on the side of the page so she got it. She now hates it. Think of what is deeply important to you in life. When you are an old wrinkly bastard, I promise you it wont look cool no matter what. So you gotta have something else going for you. If you have noticed, most people who have 1 cool tattoo have several others. Thats because they get bored with it and need something new..the cycle continues. This isnt true for all people. Some people get some weird ass design and love it till the day they die. But I would say think long and hard

yeah thats why i want to get a symbol that means alot to me but i wanna get it in another language..that makes it even more symbolic

Posted by Dj O'Callaghan on Jun-03-2002 00:46:

Yeah if your having foreign language done have it checked first, I heard a story that one bloke went to have a tat done was rude with the people on the front desk asked what a certain word would be in some oriental symbols, they designed it from the book and the bloke ended up having I'm a fucking **** tattoed to his arm so be careful. I've got two Celtic tribal tattoo's I'm getting the one on my left arm made big from shoulder down to near my elbow, tribal tats are cool, thing is though with the Polynesian ones be very careful what you have done cos some certain Samoan and Maori tribes have certain tats sort of like a family crest for their tribe, and if the works been copied from magazines and so on (it has happened before) and you end up somewhere in the South Pacific and a member of one of them tribes see the tat, they'll be far from happy and they are fucking big lads too, it will basicially be considered an insult of something scaecred, so if you have tribal polynesian style ones make sure the bloke or bird who doe's it for you hasn't ripped it off from a magazine report on Polynesian tats, also try design them yourself be creative you can make some good stuff, I know what I'm adding to one of mine.

i dont know where the fuck youre going but youre gettin ripped off....a chinese symbol on the arm isnt 1000 dollars....it all depends on the size and the complexity of the design..if you were to get a chinese symbol say about 6 inches wide and tall id say about 150 - 200 bucks that it...my friend got a big tiger on his back and that runs for about 600 bucks...

I want to get a japanese word tattoo'd on my arm.. but in a nice caligraphy type way. The bad part of it is, when I find a word that actually means something to me, it looks ugly in japanese.. o well

I've always wanted to get a dragonfly on my shoulder...one with green eyes. I just thought that up one day and I think it would look pretty cool. Do you guys think that would look cool?

I'd either get an actual representation of a dragonfly:

Or an art intrepreation of one (this one's pretty badass):
