Afterhours Duets

Afterhours Duets (Right Click Save)

This set is a 4 hour b2b effort by myself and Andrei Osyka of Droog, recorded 10.11.08 at an afters party with Lee Curtiss here in LA. I think it was recorded between 6 and 10am.

The end has a track or two from Lee Foss, playing some new material he was working on, and ends with one of my favorites from Moodymann.

We had a really good time playing music to some great people, and it was a weird, fun, debauchery and mischief filled morning. I'll get a tracklisting going shortly.

Hope you enjoy.

nice one. I'll give this a good listen thru tonight..

We traded between 3-4 tracks for the most part, starting with me, you might guess the stuff I played elFreak.

Posted by elFreak on Nov-06-2008 19:43:

Actually i was not sure.I just finished it in one sitting. The mixing is good, the tracks are good, my only complaint is that it just seemed to plod along with no high points or drama. I have no experience tagging, but i guess this might be a result of this? I could not imagine having to play like this since i usually am 2 tracks ahead in my head when playing, so tempo shifts when you don't know what is coming must be hard. Either way i enjoyed it.

Posted by Clovis on Nov-06-2008 20:30:

The plodding along is exactly what to me makes it afters music, not in a negative sense either.

Save the drama for yo mama. This is music for listening, grooving, relaxing, and doing drugs on the couch. And girls did dance too. But an afterparty is not a full on dance party (except maybe in meth/crack houses).

A fellow who was there from Portugal and frequent Ibiza goer said he thought this was perfect afters music, and I was glad to hear that because it was exactly what I was trying to play.

As for tagging, yeah, I like it because it makes you focus on the moment and you don't think too far ahead much. But for the set to still make sense you have to be on the same page overall as the guy you're playing with, and I think we were feeling it out pretty well. Some b2b sets can have too big of drops or increases in energy and abrupt changes in flow but I felt this flowed pretty well and that the peaks and valleys rose and fell smoothly.

Since when? I've had living rooms full of people dancing like crazy at 3 PM (no meth or crack pls thnx)!

Posted by Clovis on Nov-06-2008 20:33:

And I had to play radio slave - k-maze towards the end, only seemed apt

I'm not saying you can't get everyone going nuts, but they're not gonna dance the whole time, or else they'll miss out on the socialising and related hijinks.

I actually like to see which tracks motivate girls to get up and dance and which don't.

Posted by Clovis on Nov-06-2008 20:36:

Also Greg, it's good for both of us to recognize that at afters anything and everything is possible.

Posted by elFreak on Nov-06-2008 20:37:

Either way Clovis like i said, it was good. The only thing we see differently is the definition of afters. When i think of the after hours scene, I tend to think of all of the time i spent dancing those nights and mornings (sometimes past noon) away bashed out of mind. To me afters is a club, i did not realize the setting was an intimate relaxed one.

no harm no foul.

(greg will attest to seeing me never sit down and always be the last person to leave the club looking like a disheveled homeless person)

Posted by Clovis on Nov-06-2008 20:41:

Yeah, this is the villa afters.

I'm aware of the other afters scene that frequently includes Donato Dozzy records, microtranz, and 6 more pills at 11am. Whole different ballgame.

Was me. I was responsible for the run that went from 2 tunes before that to the one after it. Indeed it gets the girls going.

I'll get a tracklist going soon.
