Petition to re-open Prop 8

Not sure if this was posted already, but:

I'm signing this now. I was deeply saddened to know that a state like California voted this way.

I'll pass this on. Thanks!

Posted by Gen3r4l1ty on Nov-06-2008 21:11:

Signed. Thanks for the heads up!

Posted by skell on Nov-06-2008 21:58:

Yeah, this has been growing fast and I added my name. Not to sound skeptical, but I have never seen one of these online petitions go anywhere and make any real progress. I'm not even sure the validity of these things if there aren't physical signatures.

lol at this banner ad on the petition signatures page:

There was a nice sized protest at a morman church in Los Angeles last night. Anyone catch it on the news?

Im not morman but why did they single out just them and not the other any other religion. I heard they put millions into the prop, I would think they're not the only religion group that donated mass amounts of money into prop 8.

Posted by sugar&ice on Nov-07-2008 17:35:

Not sure, but I do know the protest was an attempt to strip tax exempt status from that particular church.

Posted by junkproject on Nov-07-2008 17:42:

Not a big fan of that kind of protest, what a waste of city resources.

They were the largest by a big margin afaik.

Posted by TSG on Nov-07-2008 18:32:

IMO... The Mormoms should have donated all that money to some other cause where it's really needed and not on a prop like prop 8.

Posted by sugar&ice on Nov-07-2008 18:35:

More than $20 million, from contributions from members of the Morman Church.

Petition closed at the request of the author =[

I was at the rally and walked with over a thousand ppl for what I believe was unjust and unfair. The passing of this bill was a grave step back in a nation that is finally starting to make steps forward.

what a nice way to render our election process irrelevant. You dont like the outcome, petition for a redo. lol

the republicans called, they would like to start a petition for a redo of the presidential election, they didnt like the outcome of that one. Soon to come, petitions for elections where seats of the house and senate were lost.

to open this back up is to say our democratic process is no good, and if you dont like how we vote, just start a petition and will let you vote again until we get it right for you lol.

A buddy of mine went to a huge protest in Silver Lake last night.
All the protesters are vowing not to pay any more taxes.

don't you guys know by now that online petitions are completely useless? there have been millions posted on that lame ass site and never once has a single one of them changed a damn thing.

now forward this post to 10 of your friends in the next 2 minutes or your dog will die!

This petition won't have a hint of influence on whatever happens though.

uh right... that doesn't provide any evidence that the petition directly affected the outcome of any of those decisions. they are stories about something the petition author wanted to happen, happening, with no established causal effect. and how many millions of those things have been made for a handful of stories like that? i'll bet the success rate is no higher than that of random chance. just thinking about it from an objective stand point, submitting an online petition to a party of authority as a form of political leverage is quite laughable from that party's perspective.

That's why I made the smiley face...duhhhh

Of course I don't take it seriously, lol.

Though, I have seen local news refer to petitions on the site in the past.

To paraphrase Martin Luther King, Jr.:

"I have a dream that one day this nation will rise up and live out the true meaning of its creed: "We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal."

I have a dream that one day on the red hills of Georgia, the sons of former slaves and the sons of former slave owners will be able to sit down together at the table of brotherhood.

I have a dream that one day even the state of Mississippi, a state sweltering with the heat of injustice, sweltering with the heat of oppression, will be transformed into an oasis of freedom and justice.

I have a dream that my four little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin but by the content of their character.

I have a dream today!

I have a dream that one day, down in Alabama, with its vicious racists, with its governor having his lips dripping with the words of "interposition" and "nullification" -- one day right there in Alabama little black boys and black girls will be able to join hands with little white boys and white girls as sisters and brothers.

I have a dream today!"

So by this logic, African Americans should have just dropped it. The majority decided they were slaves, so the democratic process worked like a charm. Guess it doesn't matter so much as long as you are not the one submitted to religious persecution and your rights are not taken away...

you completly missed the point. Fight on for your cause, that is not the problem. To petition/protest to reopen the ballot on a prop because the outcome was not in your favor? That questions the fabric of what america stands for.

I have no religious interest vested in this prop, but there have been no rights intiatially afforded to gay couples that have been revoked with this prop. An institution was simply redifined in order to uphold its original intent.
