My UFC 91 predictions. (Lesnar vs. Couture)

Heavyweight Championship Match: Randy Couture vs. Brock Lesnar
- Ok, rant and rave about Lesnar if you want, but I think Couture will win this fight. Couture is always the smaller guy in the ring when he fights in the heavyweight division, so this shouldnt be new territory for him. Especially after totally annihilating Tim Sylvia, who is bigger then Lesnar. He will use his brains and experience to win. Hes not much of a submissions guy, but Im sure hes gonna work on them because Lesnar is big and strong and can take him to the ground. I think Couture will really test Brocks endurance, and will wear him out by the 3rd or 4th round, eventually TKOing him with his patented dirty boxing.

Lightweight bout: Kenny Florian vs. Joe Stevenson
- Florian by submission in the 3rd round.

Middleweight bout: Amir Sadollah vs. Nick Catone
- Sadollah by submission in the 1st round.

Heavyweight bout: Gabriel Gonzaga vs. Josh Hendricks
- Gonzaga by TKO in the 2nd round.

Middleweight bout: Demian Maia vs. Nate Quarry
- Maia by submission in the 2nd round.

None of the preliminary fights really spark my interest, except maybe Jorge Gurgel, but he will win.

I think brock must win. he still needs to win people over & be taken seriously and a win in a fight like this would go someway to doing that.

Posted by Vlad on Nov-08-2008 14:32:

He must win and needs a win to maintain the hype that hes getting, but he wont. The anticipation and his lack of experience will fuck him over.

Posted by Ian on Nov-08-2008 14:38:

I don't know, I've seen what he has as an athlete and it's about using everything that he had, with everything he's already learned. When is it, cos i'll get it free live & i'm interested in this one

Dont forget, Tim Sylvia is 6'8" (over 2m tall) and 270lbs, I think - with tons of experience, beat top competitors, was HW champion and Couture didnt just beat him, he schooled and pwned him hard.

Brock is alittle shorter and weighs in at the limit of 265, and probably fights at around 280-90lbs, which isnt too far off from Sylvia.

Its gonna be a wrestling match about who is gonna be able to control who, and Brock is strong and Im sure he will come out the gates jumping at Couture, but Couture is a wily veteran and will counter Brocks aggression. Being aggressive isnt always a good thing, especially when you dont have the experience to get out of sticky situations that you could put yourself into.

wasn't lesnar a 2 time ncaa wrestling champion? when you toss around terms like 'wily veteran' i can't help but think of ric flair

Couture graduated from Lynnwood High School in Lynnwood, Washington where he won a State Championship during his senior year. Couture served in the U.S. Army from 19821988. Upon discharge, he was a three-time Olympic team alternate (1988, 1992 and 1996); a semifinalist at the 2000 Olympic Trials; a three-time National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division-I All-American and a two-time NCAA Division-I runner-up at Oklahoma State University.[2] In 1992 he was the Division-1 runner up at 190 pounds coming in second after Mark Kerr.

Randy is no joke.

I will never count Randy out in a fight, but I think he has his work cut out for him next weekend. Randy isn't a big puncher, so I don't really see him having much affect from the feet, at least in terms of hurting Brock. Maybe he can keep busy and frustrate Lesnar, ala Tim Sylvia. Randy's wrestling is outstanding obviously, but we'll see how it compares to the equally skillful, and much bigger wrestler in Brock. I really don't like Brock, but my gut tells me he stops Randy in the first or second round. Man will I be happy though, if Randy can pull it off.

Kenflo - Stevenson fight is going to be great. They both have excellent grounds games, so I don't really expect to see a submission. Kenny's standup is better, and I see that being the difference. Kenny by TKO, possibly doctor stoppage of some kind.

I think Randy will do something magical.

BJ Penn got Stevenson on the ground and subbed him, I think KenFlow is just as good as BJ on the ground, and could get him.

BJ Penn is the best MMA grappler in the world probably. ken Flo is a great grappler..I believe he has a BJJ black belt. But his ground game isn't quite on penn's level imo.

The best grappler has to be Fedor, you cant let the guy get anywhere near you cause you'll either get knocked out, sweeped or hip thrown - the guys strength and brute force is unmatched in the ring.

BJ definitely is something special, he should have never ventured out his weight class- especially not as high as 205... and I really hope KenFlow gets the win because I think the match between BJ and KenFlow would be amazing. They are both great grappler's and have very good stand up (although BJ's might be a better).

Fedor just fucks people up.

By the way, I think Brock Lesnar proves to be too strong for Couture. That's just my gut feeling.

Posted by elFreak on Nov-12-2008 20:06:

i predict ufc needs to start putting up better cards.

Posted by Renzo on Nov-12-2008 20:11:

UFC 92 will be good.

Posted by elFreak on Nov-12-2008 20:14:

yeah, but this weekend's card does not get me too excited.

Posted by Roweazie on Nov-12-2008 21:23:

1.Couture, by 2nd round submission (rear naked on that bishhhh).
2.Stevenson unanimous decision.
3.Napao by submission on 1st round.
4.Rock by k/o.

Couture wont sub Lesnar that early... Couture isnt a submission fighter period.

Quarry is NOT beating Maia, not a single chance in hell.

Quarry might be strong on ground, but i don't think he stand a chance w/Rock on stand up. Rock got a fast hand like shogun. I guess will see on how will both fighter adjust their game.

Posted by Vlad on Nov-13-2008 23:42:

Again... Nate Quarry will lick my hairy ass before he beats Demian Maia.
