Atomix VirtualDJ?

Hey guys, similar to my other post regarding MixMeister, I would be interested in gauging people's opinions regarding this piece of software. Do you think it's of a high enough quality to be used in clubs? I mean I like how it works a lot but I find that the sound quality is shit. But then again I have a shit computer with an even worse sound card....

no fucking way could you use this beyond your bedroom.

i used to practice on VDJ for a while. Traktor3 is better anyways. VDJ is there if you want the looks... like a Behringer DJX700 mixer

Technically you could use it out somewhere, but I'd be pretty embarrassed to do so.

Indeed.

Virtual DJ actually works very good. Feature wise it's always been ahead of the curve. It's taken a while for other programs to catch up in terms of their beatmatching algorithms. Many of the new beat based features of Traktor are things that Virtual DJ has had for years. It's also great for effects. You can download as many new effects from their website. Finally Virtual DJ has built in video mixing which is turning out to be a big deal.

The only thing I've ever seen people complain about is the sound. You can't really boost the base or gain very much without hearing distortion. This improves a little with a good soundcard. Still it sounds to me like Traktor does a lot of post processing on the sound to allow you to crank things, and virtual DJ does not. I don't turn the levels up quite that high so I've never had a problem with it. You can get around this problem simply by using it together with an external mixer.

I wouldn't be embarrased to use it. However, the new Traktor is very competitive. I'm sure Virtual DJ will catch up, but it will be a while.

Hi...
Well... I strongly recommend you NOT to use Virtual DJ in a club... For 1 it's really embarrissing and second... are you a real DJ then? I mean... You just click some buttons and everything almost goes by itself... It doesnt give you the real DJ feeling (can't explain that feeling though)
Anyways... Use your real equipment would be my advice...

You have to remember that VirtualDJ just like anything else is just one tool. You can easily combine VirtualDJ together with your existing turntables etc. You can use virtual DJ to carry a more powerful library and set of effects, and still control it with all your traditional equipment.

I am simply saying that one should not be embarrassed to be using VirtualDJ as opposed to any other DJ software such as Traktor. Whether or not you're a real DJ for using such software is an issue that we should leave up to the other ten thousand threads I'm sure you've already had on this subject.

all DJs nowadays should be ashamed

I have used VDJ for 3 years on a few assorted occasions.

Wedding
Assembled Birthday Parties
House Partys

With external equipment & no one even noticed what I was using. It is a powerful program that can be used in different aspects. I would never use it in a club but hey, It got the job done for me & I never had a problem with it.

You can combine VDJ with ur turntables yes, but ur right sound quality is horrible. You're much better of using traktor or perhaps numark cue with the numark total control controller if ur bent on using this kind of software.

but that DJ-ing feeling that someone mentioned above...only a real mixer can give u that...and only a real mixer gives u that kind of control. whenever i've used VDJ...i find that i'm very very limited. u cant adjust ur levels and EQ with the same precision...and yeah at some point u figure out that page up and page down controls the crossfader..but if ur spinning EDM u shouldn't be using the crossfader anyway. which is why i guess if u really are bent on using VDJ, try using a midi controller sort of thing so u can retain some level of control.

Numark cue is simply VirtualDJ repackaged with a different skin. It's the same software.

I just got a Hercules DJ Console RMX and I am using VDJ and I think the software is pretty cool. I got a bunch of effects off of the VDJ website and found a skin I like.

I suppose I will have to give Traktor a try and see how that is. I used to play with Traktor with my computer keyboard but not with a MIDI controller. Now that I have this guy here I am having all kinds of fun.

I used VDJ because it has native support for the Console RMX.
