If I hear this track one more time I may repeatedly stab myself in the jugular...

What is the one track you hate hearing the most?

Whether it is over played or just a shitty track.

For me:
Total Departure - Christian Smith & John Selway (and EVERY remix of it)

I first heard it back in May when Jim Rivers played it at Hotel, it was the tune of the night for us, we were all in awe wondering what it was.

I loved it for maybe another three listens until I realized it was the biggest build up ever leading to absolutely nothing. I feel so disappointed everytime I hear it.

And because I hate it so much I seem to ALWAYS hear it, whether in a club or listening to a set, it seems to make its way into every genre. In the last hour I heard it in two sets (Sander K and Deadmau5).

If I DJ placed it in the right part of the set I think it still could be mindblowing...

But everything I have heard has made me hate it more and more and more.

I have a 3-times rule when I'm out in a club:

If I hear the same track 3 times, the same night, at the same club - it means it's time to go home.

This has happened 2 or 3 times when I've been at the club allegedly. Fortunately I didn't have to hear the song each time. It's been close though.

I agree with your hatred for this track...I have it and have accidentally dropped it into a set once or twice...always regretting that I have and getting out of it as quickly as possible without being too obvious...its also on Lawler's viva toronto CD...OVERKILL....

It's a track that's good when you use it properly in a set, but really sucks when not used well.

Also sounds better when you do a mash up with an another track to fill in that huge ass breakdown in the middle

Like I said... if put into the right set at the right time it can be mind blowing.

I did hear it in one techno set (too tired to think of which one) and it worked perfectly.

But 9.9/10 this song makes me want to slice off my ears.

i totally agree. a certain local toronto dj once mixed it in between two housey tracks. it was one of the worst mixes i have heard at an event in years! LOL!

I heard the same two songs three times in one night at Bal en Blanc last year. Above & Beyond, Armin, and Sander Van Doorn all played: Joop - The Future and AvB/SvD-Control Freak.

lol, don't you hate that!

People talk about how awesome a track is so you listen to it and don't like it....you keep hearing about it and decided to give it one more try and nope, still sucks

I never even heard this song until 2 mos ago. Mauro Picotto was playing some version of it at a festival, and it seriously made me want to go stab him in the throat. Only after did I learn what song it was. I dont get the hype about it. Dont like it AT ALL.

My 'oh my gawd not again!' song would have to go to Born Slippy, any remix.

If your referring to the simpler song by pete heller (I know you were referring to lawler's remix)... but that song was always the biggest mystery to me.

That was probably the most boring song I have ever heard in my life... and then I would read reviews on TA where people were like 'OMG I went insane when he dropped 'pete heller - simpler''. It seemed to just be like a trendy song or something that people felt it was cool to like.

I dont even know how that song can be considered EDM! it sounds like the intro to a movie or something where the sun is rising and everyone is waking up in the morning to go to work...

I challenge anyone to mention a song in this thread that is more overplayed than this song.

Hahaha, I remember discussing this rule with you on at least two occasions. I can't remember if it was enforced or not, but I whole-heartedly agree.

Far be it from me to criticize on matters of taste, but isn't it the same track no matter who "drops" it?

Oh, and my answer to the original post is John Dahlback - Pyramid (any remix). Seriously, enough already, it wasn't that great the first time.

Can't say I'm a fan of Total Departure either. I haven't even heard it that many times, but I'm pretty sure it was that track I heard at Cherry Beach and was having a discussion with either Graham or Jay along the lines of "WTF, does this track actually go anywhere or does it just build up pointlessly for 10 minutes?" I guess it's not that much worse than any other tech house, but I just think it's impotent, trying in vain for several minutes to get it up before finally collapsing with disappointed exhaustion.

I concur. I absolutely hate this song now.
