GENESIS - Crown Productions NYE - December 31st 2008 (Winnipeg)

Crown Crown Productions -
GENESIS - NYE 2009

So what is Genesis anyways? Well basically it can be summed up as the creation of life. We like to think of music as a vibrant definition of life. The Rhythm, The Tempo, The Sound and finally the Energy, They are elements that fuel our everyday lives. When the clock strikes 12:00am it will be the start of a new year and a new beginning for all of us.

Featuring.....

FRANKIE BONES - NEW YORK CITY, NY
Ecler DJ Division / System Recordings / East Music Group NY

Frankie Bones, often termed the "Godfather" of the rave scene, has spent more than two-thirds of his life devoted electronic music. He got a start earlier than most. At only eleven years of age Bones had what he deems his first true experience in clubbing. Every Saturday from that fateful day in May 1978 until 1982, Bones went to Roll-A-Palace, a rollerskating rink in Brooklyn with a dancefloor and "forward thinking" DJ's, as he puts it. There he learned the basic concepts of how to format music from being a regular patron on a weekly basis. By the summer of 1979, at the age of twelve, Bones had already wired two turntables to the same stereo signal to enable him to start the next record while the one playing faded out. "My father found a box called a 1-4 Audio splitter which was a mixer with four slides marked Audio 1-4 and that was it. The art of mixing came by accident when I took two 45's of 'Good Times' and extended the chorus. My BSR turntables had no pitch control so matching the beat of the same song was easy."

His legendary STORMraves in Brooklyn in the 90's have earned him the reputation as a pioneer of rave culture. "Frankie Bones introduced raves to the east coast by throwing a series of big underground parties. They were known as STORMraves. Many promoters give Bones credit as the founding father of raves in America. It was at one of these Storm Raves that Bones gave a very important speech after one of his very powerful sets. He explained what the scene was about and why he had brought it to New York: Peace, Love, Unity and respect. When he finished everyone in the warehouse waved their hands in the air in complete unity. For many it was the most beautiful speech anyone has ever heard." says one attendee.

From Prodigy to LTJ Bukem to Carl Cox, some of the best talent to emerge in the global scene has attributed Bones as an inspiration. Playing cutting edge music without gimicks or limitation, Bones does not follow trends or try to create them. "I do not go for a look or a style, Fashion goes in and out of style, Passion and dedication never go out of style. I cannot scratch like DJ Craze cut like Bad Boy Bill, have major backing like Paul Oakenfold or rap like Run DMCm yet every time I start where they finish the crowd response equals or surpasses. How? Why? It is quite simple: I love what I do and I have loved what I have been doing."

MARCO G - QUEBEC CITY, CANADA
http://www.djmarcog.com/

After accomplishing his musical theme project with his team mates Mathieu Desaulniers, Dj Kal & Nicolas Maranda, Marco G shared this prize for the Canadian TV series 'Minuit Le Soir', thus winning an honorary Academy of Canadian Cinema & Television award, also known as 'Prix Gemaux'. This prize pushed him to persevere in his musical field. The celebrated DJ behind the famed 'G-style', Marco Grenier's savvy selections and impeccable mixing have made him an established favorite at home and abroad. A long-time friend and collaborator of DJ Preach, Marco G shares a residency at Quebec City's prestigious Club Dagobert, where he effortlessly constructs sets of throbbing, sultry and unique funky 'G' style house that appeals to purists and thrill-seeking partygoers alike.

Marco G retains a hectic DJing schedule in his home town of Quebec, whilst satisfying the growing international demand for his productions. With a permanent home on Relic Silver, Marco G's productions have also been signed to a wide range of house labels from DJ Dan's InStereo, Patrick La Funk's home label Opaque Music, to Carl Cox's 23rd Century house label and Canada's prestigious Hi-Bias and EyezCream Recordings.

Through seventeen years of DJing, whether playing for diehard sweat-drenched ravers or classy, wine-sipping trendsetters, Marco G has never lost his close ties to the underground. The hard, dark rhythms of the afterhours culture remain a pervasive element in both his track selection and production approach, and his open enthusiasm towards new genres, ideas, people and places has allowed his career to thrive through three decades.

Deko-ze - TORONTO, CANADA
PPM/Hi-Bias Records / http://www.dekoze.com/

Deko-ze regards electronic music as an art-form; a natural extension of his classical training in piano. He believes music should induce a wide range of emotional response, but ultimately programs to create energy and positivity.

In a scene now overly segmented, Deko-ze is increasingly distinctive: although categorized as a House DJ, he is recognized for his ability to fuse music of multiple genres (deep, funky & hard house; tribal; progressive; electro; tech-trance; techno).

ZEW - Chicago, USA
www.DNBTV.com / ChiTOWN UnderGround

DRUM and BASS

Paul, aka ZEW first dropped into the drum and bass scene back in early 2001 when he took over ownership of the well recognized Bassdrive.com. This self taught DJ and innovator worked hard towards making Bassdrive what it is today. After 7 years of running and promoting the site, Zew sold Bassdrive to move onto bigger and better things but still continued to host his show, ChiTOWN UnderGround, alongside local DJs Grand Marquee and Ikaika.

This chameleon spins anything from dark and dirty tech step to deep rolling liquid. His unique mixing is influenced by everything from old school hip hop to metal. Zew has recently left Bassdrive.com to find his new home on DNBTV.com where he plays alongside drum and bass legends such as Mason, DStar, Dylan and two of Winnipegs favorite locals, Gumby and Whupass.

KRISTOFF - EDMONTON, CANADA
http://www.djkristoff.com/

Kristoff has built a reputation as one of Canada's leading trance producers. His productions have landed releases on Matt Dareys DP Recording, Fundamental Recordings Holland, FluxDelux UK, Recoverworld UK and Amplified Digital. Tune into his Monthly Canadian Culture Radio show on Digitally Imported Radio with regular international guests.

PEROSITY - THUNDER BAY, CANADA
http://www.perosity.ca/

Perosity started by playing hip hop and learning to scratch witch eventually led to him being pulled into the EDM scene by the sounds of drum and bass / jungle. While playing a few events here and there he decided to take a 2 year hiatus from life and move to Toronto to practice and perfect the craft by gaining experience performing with the very Dj's he aspired to be. Once back in Thunder Bay Ontario he decided to pursue djing professionally rather than just a hobby.

In 2007 Perosity landed his first residency at a local afterhours club Chaos , while playing at Choas he met another Dj (Doran) who he later teamed up with to form the beginning of Duck'n Cover Productions after the afterhours club closed to help keep the scene alive. Since then Perosity along with Duck'n Cover have gone on to throw monthly events in the city of Thunder Bay, and now currently hold a regular spot every Friday night on the local station (LU Radio) CILU 102.7fm.

DORAN - THUNDER BAY, CANADA

No stranger to different styles and genres, Doran fuses funky & tech breakbeats with bangin house, electro, hard acid techno, and anything in between. His on-the-fly mixing style lends itself to bending the rules, creating adventurous mashups, and most importantly keeping you moving on the dancefloor.

not that it matters..

but even though the least known local dj on a bill can outplay the main headliner (from europe or anywhere for that matter) on any given night, are there only gonna be relatively unknown headliners from north america for this event?

i know we entering or are in a recession.. but c'mon. where's the big headliners?

Lived a little bit of a sheltered life have ya? Frankie Bones... serious? Or Deko-ze for that matter, never heard of them? Plus we've had other big names before for NYE. The past two years had Signum and Ronski Speed as the Trance headliners, not exactly unknowns if you ask anyone who's listened to trance in the last 5 years.

Maybe you need to take a road trip to Toronto, Deko-ze wouldn't be such an unfamiliar name to you.

Also I'd take seeing AvB or anyone else who is wildly popular on the international stage here for $30 over seeing him for $70-80 in Vancouver thanks.

Sorry to get all hostile on ya but you made a pretty ignorant statement. Plus what the hell do you expect, our population is the same as Surrey. Give me a break!

Quoted for truth!!

Anyone who call's themselves a big EDM fan and does not know who Frankie Bones is has been living under some serious large boulders the last 20+ years. He is pretty much the man that started this whole EDM scene here in North America that we love so dearly.

Aside from that Deko-ze is a legend in Western Canada, especially in Saskatchewan, Alberta and Manitoba.

You can bash our local Winnipeg scene all you want to but this year as Crown we wanted to give the people a party that they wanted.

They asked for Deko-ze, they got him, They asked to have Kristoff back, they got him too. They asked for a main headliner other then the ussual trance we have featured in the past, and we delivered that as well.

We will be rockin it this new years in one of Winnipeg's most historical venues to some amazing beats laid down by some amazing talent.

Cheers

i agree. these aren't proper headliners. ask anyone that knows what is what.

yeah deko-ze may be popular in winnipeg but lets face it, he's relatively unknown on the global scale and is probably dirt cheap to book.

as for frankie bones. i haven't heard of him headlining any events in the last ten years. who cares what he did in the sixties for the rave scene.

kristoff is awesome but once again relatively unknown on the global scale and dirt cheap to book.

there are lots of deejays in winnipeg who could headline any event in the world because they got the talent. do they get booked? no. cause they are "relatively unknown".

nontheless, all the advertised headliners are talented and will rock the crowd but they are no name headliners in my books.

party will kick ass regardless.

I agree with your points. Yeah Frankie Bones is a legend but so is Paul Oakenfold and the guy is virtually nobody today. Plus he pretty much sucks now. I can't say I've heard anything by Frankie lately so I don't even know if he's still putting material out but if he's still got even a fraction of his previous talent it'll be a great show.

You're right, outside of Canada none of these headliners (except for the main headliner) are huge names. Yes, well respected but they probably don't have huge marketing machines behind them either.

Plus the issue with booking NYE headliners is that if you want to get anyone who's name is anywhere near the TA or DJmag or Mixmag lists then you're going to shell out top dollar to get them in. I've heard some of the bigger names will rake in well in excess of $100K for NYE. Plus if you look at the headliners for bigger parties in Canada on NYE like Resolution in Montreal even they're rarely getting the bigger names before 4 or 5 in the morning because they were playing somewhere else right before that and were flown in to the second event of the night. I think SvD or Tiesto was an example of that at Resolution last year or the year before when he went on at like 7am or something to start. That's insane if you ask me.

We just don't have the money to book any of these huge names for NYE, especially more than one major headliner who's got recent high rotation material out there. That's not intended as an insult to those who've been booked as I'm excited to see almost all of them perform but we've got to face facts that we're a small market compared to TO, NY, or LA.

I'm interested to know your definition of "dirt cheap" but that's another discussion for another time

Your final sentence sums it up. It isn't just about having some super-rockstar dj headline the party. Crown provide an EVENT like no other - ask anyone who has been to our parties and you'll know that the music will be top quality from each and every dj hitting the stage, the atmosphere and vibe will be unparalleled, and you'll come out wondering why more events don't feel as awesome.

See you there.
