How to record your DJ set?

OK, I'm hoping to make a demo soon, so I need to know how you guys are recording your sets?

I'm currently looking at Audacity but the sound quality looks poor.

Any suggestions?

Lizandro told me about a thing and I can't remember the name right now. You can download it off the internet as shareware and then activate it to break 3-minute demo recording limit..all for something like $30. It's actually worth the money since there is no conversion needed (it records automatically in mp3), doesn't lag at all, and has excellent sound quality.

the program i use which works PERFECTLY is 'total recorder'. i went ahead and bought the program and it was worth it. it can record in any format including mp3. it can also record from any source, including internet streams! well worth it if you ask me

Nice, I was also looking for something to record internet streams.

it was good until i got my mac. now i use my garage band. that hi-q recording software did me right till i got my new comp. lookin forward to your set, m8!

MBox 2 Mini. Comes with Pro Tools.

It's a bit pricey, but worth it.

This is what I use for recording sets, and creating re-edits or simple remasters of tracks. I use alot of the compressor based plug-ins from Waves to record as loud a single I can without clipping or overcompressing.

Whatever you use, I recommend a soundcard with analog ins and outs and 24bit recording capability. And a sound recording program that can record at 24 bit and then let you dither down to 16. (This is how I get the sound quality that I do on my mixes)

Recording at the highest bit-rate available, with the greatest signal to noise ratio, and proper use of compression...you get the most out of a 16bit master. I would never recommend recording in MP3 format, though when you wish to convert to MP3, set the MP3 conversion speed settings to the lowest possible, select your bitrate (320kps if you can, but I never go under 192), stereo (no joint or mid-side) and you'll get the best quality for the bitrate you choose.

I use ableton... Werks gud imo

You can run into a buffer problem on Ableton when recording long sets. Just be wary of that. Lost my entire show with Basic Perspective two years ago recording it on Ableton because of it.
