In My Room (Archives) [Electro/Techno/House/Breaks & more!]
Hey Party People!
I co-host a radio show on CKLN 88.1 FM in Toronto on the 4th Sunday of every month from 1-3am with the other djs in the Eclectic Groove crew. The format is pretty loose and while I tend to prefer continuous mix sessions we do occasionally play "traditional" radio sets, i.e. song - talk - song.
I try to record each set we play that I'm around for - but sometimes it doesn't happen...
If you live in the GTA, or are swinging by, and want to be on the air, shoot me a PM or an email with a link to a demo/promo and I'll do my best to accomodate!
After all, Community Radio works best when the community participates!

I wasn't sure if I was going to get any dj help for the show this month so I thought I'd gradually work my way up from tech-house but, lo and behold Chiclet showed up with her drunken posse (note: I said POSSE ) and about 30 minutes in to the show she took over. Later on, I threw a couple of tracks in here and there. I think this is a decent live set and there's a great variety of tracks in here.
If you listen carefully, you'll hear the voice of often shouted-out EG resident Shalom. Also, that track by Glitch is awesome...but it's not me. Different spelling. He/she/they put out some pretty good stuff. No, I have no hard feelings about the name.

After nearly a year-long hiatus, my radio show �In My Room� is back on the airwaves at CKLN 88.1FM in Toronto. Regardless of all the drama that went on at the station over the past two years, I�m still happy to part of the campus-community radio station and I look forward to resuming my monthly residency.

This month we were pleased to have MindTransit in the studio for a full 2 hr mix!
Mind Transit is a producer/remixer from Toronto, mainly influenced by old school Rave, Acid, and Ambient House. Ignoring technological advancements, MT uses 90′s samplers, keyboards and recording techniques to make old-school UK-style techno that sounds at the same time current and classic.
His album"1992 and All That," released on Intellegenix Records, hit #2 on JunoDownload.com in October last year, and his past remix releases have all charted as well. Read my review of "1992 and All That" here.
After the mix we chatted for a bit and MT shared his thoughts on the state of Rave, noteworthy producers/labels and what he's got in the pipeline!

Local Toronto dj JLR joined me in the studio last week for a B2B dj mix and I think our filtered disco house styles were a great match considering we�d never played together before.

Unfortunately, this might be my last ever In My Room. On Friday, Jan.28th the CRTC issued a ruling to revoke CKLN�s broadcasting licence. This came as a surprise to many here at the station and although we are working on an appeal, we have been ordered to cease broadcasting on Feb.12, 2011.
So, best case scenario: we�re on hiatus for a little bit. Worst case: that�s it.
In the meantime,
If you care about independent community radio in Toronto and want to help us stay on the air, please take a moment to sign our online petition: CKLN must remain on the airwaves! Petition
This petition may make the CRTC reconsider their decision.
However, we can�t put all of our faith in this effort alone. We have also started a letter writing campaign to let solicit support from our MPs. Federal NDP Leader Jack Layton has already offered his support!

Last month I was very happy to have Mr. Tunes on the program. He's the real deal: DJ, Producer, and Technician. His passion for music is obvious and infectious but in case you've never heard of the man....
Mr. Tunes (Elliott Fienberg) plays a heady blend of house, world fusion, and a bit of dubstep. He's released music on labels such as Crammed Disc, DNH Records, and his own Auditory Music. This year, Tunes has been busy working on the El Ni�o project, which is a combination of podcasts and a monthly event at Rasputin Vodka Bar.

Back in March I was lucky to have Rich Hope, of the Bounce crew, as the featured guest on In My Room. Rich Hope has been DJing for over a decade now, spinning deep and dubby house music in Toronto. Over the years Rich has performed alongside international acts like JT Donaldson, Sonny Fodera, Pezzner, Fred Everything, and LawnChair Generals to name a few.
