In.
hooray.
Nice dude, I'm in!
snagging this one too...looks very nice!
cheers m8eys!
Here we go.
Mostly progressive house mix that really excites at the beginning with a proper opener and that Dopamine Theory track that's really setting Eelke Kleijn up for a nice 2009. Sweet Rain slowed it down I thought - but the mix was good enough to carry it. Q-Force track was fun. Had those spacey 80's elements and light beat to bounce to - I really liked this one. You brought the funk early with Let Me Know which was a good track to pick up the energy with but then dropped it down again with a more melodic track in Expo 86. Prixter continued an almost steady drive I think towards the end of this track I was tempted to hit a little fast forward. I stuck it out but long tracks seem to really work well at the beginning or the end of sets... Just my personal opinion of course. I mean I really felt bouncey after Let Me Know so maybe my expectations were a bit mixed. Run To You/Neptune Rising had more of that airy progressive trance feeling - but at least you stayed consistent. This Jaytech track (I think - I'm kinda lost) is another fun track would've loved to hear this after or before Let Me Know. It's just got that feeling - I can't really explain it. Just energy. Autumn Leaves has some proper electro elements providing a step up from the last track which is great. This stretch (9 - 12) is probably the best of the mix. Lanui smells of unicorns but it's a fun closer - a "drive off into the sunset" sort of track.
Thanks for sharing. The tracklist was superb. Let Me Know is definitely a keeper for me.

OK Sam, I got to work from home today so I had plenty of time to catch up on some TA mixes
I just hit play and I must say that your opening track is awesome. An awesome progressive house tune that I haven't heard before. Gonna have to add it to my collection You blended it perfectly with "Dopamine Theory", another awesome prog-houser.
Now, we are on to "Sweet Rain", another tune I hadn't heard before. And I'm liking what I'm hearing. It has a really beautiful melody, and I feel it keeps the flow of your set going quite nicely. Denys says it slows things down a bit, but I feel that it maintains pretty much the same mood and it raises it toward the end, it might be just me, I don't know
On to one of my favorite new releases, "Super Swede". Now you're beginning to gradually increase the mood into the funky and slightly bangin' territory. I felt the melodies kinda clashed a bit on the transition to "Let me Know", nothing too big though it just sounds a little weird. And fuck me sideways! This is such a choon!!! Hadn't heard anything this good by Joey Negro since "Make a Move on Me". Added to the crate!
Right here, however, I do feel that "Expo 86" slows thing down a bit instead of driving the mood forward like you have been doing so far. I would've played this tune before the Joey Negro tune, but that's just me. Your transition into "Prixter" was fucking gold though and more than makes up for the slight drop of mood. You blended the tracks so well that I didn't even notice it. Very nice job mate!
Ahh...Paul Keeley Yet another awesome tune by him and another of my favorite new releases, you already know how much I love this guy. So far, your set has a Luke Fair-ish vibe to it, and that is not a bad thing at all.
Although, I do feel that it slowed the mood down again. Nothing bad, I just feel it would have worked better earlier in the set. Now that I heard the next track coming in, I'm starting to see a pattern. Maybe this is your style, and you are intentionally slowing the mood a bit with a single track and then raise it again for another 3 or so tracks. The more energizing tracks feel a lot stronger because of the contrast against the slightly slower track
The track following "Run to You" is also another tune I haven't heard before. I'm liking it a lot, very nice melody and a lot of energy. Another addition to the crate! The next transition felt a bit rushed and I think there was no need to. From what I could hear, you could have left the outgoing track longer and it would have sounded perfect.
From this point on I can really feel the energy raising and raising towards the more trancier stuff. I really don't listen to trance that much anymore but these tracks you selected have been nice and work very well in keeping with the general flow of your set. They are trancey but still housey if you know what I mean
I've reached what I think is the climax of your set, the duo of "Above" and "Jeniffer". You blended these two tracks in such a way that the energy is not lost at all. You mixed it early and thus, we get to hear the very meat of "Jeniffer". Awesome
Very nice set mate, you kept an interesting flow all throughout in your own way which I think is a plus for you. At first it does feel like the energy drops but once I noticed that you do it for at least another two times within the set then it just works on the set as a whole.
I think I cannot compliment you enough on your track selection which is superb, as in every set I've heard from you. The mixing was tight and on point except for the transition I pointed out, which is by all means good but felt a bit weird for me.
Very nice set Sam, keep 'em coming!
this set is on my download list. will reply tommorow with plenty feedback!

And yes, I do like to build up then drop it down a couple places in my mixes. Although, the drop after Let Me Know wasn't intentional - I couldn't find another tune that had the same energy & dynamics so just went for a keymatch instead. Happens from time to time. |
