Rane Empath Rotary - Event Worthy? Thoughts?

So I'm pretty much in love with this mixer but I don't want to drop a dime on something that can't be used for large events. When I say large events I'm talking about LARGE events like Tiesto, Oakey, Pete Tong, etc. Thoughts? Opinions?

RANE EMPATH ROTARY 3 CHANNEL DJ MIXER

The Empath mixer combines the vision of Grandmaster Flash and Rane technology. Compact size, exceptional performance and advanced features set the Empath mixer apart. The Empath is the most able 3-channel, 10" format mixer available. The name implies: understanding, awareness and sensitivity to the needs of DJs. The new Rotary version of the Empath has three rotary knobs where the main channel faders are normally.

Features:

* Universal internal power supply. When traveling, finding power supply adapters is difficult. The Empath accepts 100 to 240 VAC, 50/60 Hz power, for use anywhere in the world without adapters.
* Auto-Gain prevents performance-wrecking swings in program level when changing sources. The music is never too soft or clipped.
* FlexFX is a post-fader external stereo effects loop with individual Dry/Wet pan controls for Mic and Input Channels 1, 2 and 3.
* Penny & Giles faders are simply the best money can buy. Smooth, accurate and reliable mixing is made possible by employing the most respected name in audio faders.
* Two kinds of fader caps are provided for different mixing preferences: soft rubber caps for smooth mixing, and hard plastic caps for fast mixing.
* Flash-Cue allows the DJ to rapidly select Crossfader A-Cue-sum or Crossfader B-Cue-sum with the flick of a switch, normally slow or complicated on other mixers.
* Multiple Outputs. Nothing is more frustrating than arriving at a club and finding their jacks don't match. Systems may have XLR, TRS or RCA connectors. The Empath provides all three.
* Low and High headphone tone controls allow the DJ to match their mixer to their headphones.
* Both 1/8" and 1/4" headphone jacks are simultaneously usable. More headphones are compatible with the Empath.
* Two assignable CD triggers work with any CD player with fader start ability.
* Accelerated-Slope, full-cut, 3-band tone controls are the most flexible and highest quality available.
* Crossfader assign switches allow any Input Channel to be mixed on the A-side, B-side or Post Crossfader.
* Level meters view Stereo Cue, Stereo Master Mix, Split Cue or Main Output signals.
* Size: 14"H x 10"W x 4"D
* Weight: 9 lbs

Worthy? Yes. Too bad the 3 wankers you listed would prefer a DJM-800 for familiarity purposes.

The whole "club standard" thing is a bitch.

How could any mixer not be suitable for a large event?

Yea they would prob prefer a 800 but that sure is hawt.

having played on both the empath (linear) and djm-800, i'd say the djm is an over-priced joke of a mixer

the sound is crap, especially compared to the A&H, and the effects are blah unless in the hands of a geek that has devoted their life to mastering them and really, unless you're planning on using it coupled with the digital coax, not worth your time and money to upgrade from the djm-600

my next mixer purchase is going to be in the form of an A&H xone 92 rotary or korg zero 8, although the ecler evo 5 has gotten my attention, i just haven't had the chance to play on it yet

btw, i USED to be a pioneer whore through and through

CDJs, pioneer all the way, but the djm-800, it works well, not worth the price

edit: you get these "top djs" putting it on their riders because it's convenient and easily accessible, also it's familiar, having played on the different xones and heard what they can add to a proper sound system, it's like night and day

vive le analog sound!

I have the current riders for all three you name, plus most others, and a rane empath is not on any of them.
Sorry dude- it's generally the djm800/1000 or an A&H 92 all the way now- its the house and trance industry standard for the vast majority...don't have it, they won't play.

Hmm, why do you really care what's on their riders? If you're really throwing events that huge, just rent whatever you need for the show. The costs is miniscule in the scheme of things.

As for the above mentioned mixer, the Empath is awesome. And mixing on a Rane rotary is always a good feeling.

Just an FYI Tony, the Korg Zero line has been discontinued apparently!

Correct.
We have serveral in house mixers- 62, 92, djm 800 & 1000, and a rane 2016+XP -fitted as and when depending on event, djs, riders and recording needs.
Any other mixer needed is rented- not v expensive for one nite/event for a mixer.

well shit...

i played on a zero 4 and thought it was actually pretty good, i liked the way you could double up the effects with the channel effects and master effects, other than the low headphone output it was a pretty solid mixer, was looking forward to testing out the zero 8

Tony, i'm looking to invest in a xone92 rotary also. If you do find a decent price in Canada, do let me know

Posted by Allied Nations on Nov-18-2008 22:17:

if i had a rider i think the empath rotary would be one of my first choices along with the 2016

Posted by Existo22 on Nov-22-2008 08:46:

I have said it in the other thread this is the best all around mixer if you factor price.
