Booo!! :d

Hey what's up TOTA!!?! I'm living in Winnipeg now just in case anybody was wondering. Miss you guys (from time to time.. :P) Give me some news or updates. The prairies do get a lil lonely. Preach is coming this Saturday so I'll pop by to see him. Nothing else going on here otherwise. Just the sound of the wind.

Just wait until Jan when the snow piles up.

Buahahahaha

Posted by disko-kandi on Nov-18-2008 05:32:

it's already all piled up & i'm watching the lake freeze a little bit more every day. I'm about 2 hrs north of Winnipeg on the east side of Lake Winnipeg, almost falling off the map.

Hey Jon Jon, Fay & Sarah!!

SO good to 'see' your responses! I've been here since May. My Mom unexpectedly passed away last year on Dec. 25th and due to these 'circumstances' I moved to Wpg. Long story....but ya, I've been holding down the 'fort' at the family cottage at Victoria Beach on Lake Wpg. Started teaching at Red River College but commuting 2hrs. Still looking for a place to live in the city. The rent here is INSANELY cheap!! 1 brdm for approx. $500-700/ mth!!

The National Human Rights Museum is going to be built here as of next spring. THIS is where I want to be & I woudn't have a chance like this anywhere else in the country - to combine my int'l human rights law background with teaching ESL. I now work on the 'other side of the coin' as opposed to what I used to do on the NGO or int'l level back in the UK or Geneva.

Instead of helping refugees and asylum seekers get into the country, - or not, I now work on settlement and integration - in combination with teaching ESL - workforce-related English, i.e. prepping newcomers for the Canadian workforce, but at the same time finding a way to acknowlede their foreign credentials. I am trying to help develop, establish & implement the Foreigh Credential Accreditation system further in Canada on the provincial and federal level. All quite exciting stuff! At least I'm making a difference on the 'home front'.

Tomorrow, Philippe is spinning in Wpg. I'll go see him to at least say hi and go for dinner before his gig. It's been too long! It's been years since we've seen each other. I'm not the party animal that I used to be, but it will be nice to meet a good old friend whose been a consistent and 'real' friend over the years in the 'scene'.

I'll be going to Roatan Island in Honduras for a 2 week holiday as of Dec 5th. I'll be stopping over in TO on my way back for a few days to see my brother and hopefully some of you! (Dec 19th-23rd)

Lots of love & hugs,
-Silke

This brings back a few debate memories. I'm curious, are you finding this more rewarding than what you were doing previously? I think it sounds more down-to-earth and practical, but that's just me...

Aside from that... I'm sorry to hear about your mom. And I hope you have a great time on your vacation. Maybe we'll get to talk again when you're around - I miss the arguments.
