Jester "Justice Faking Their Live Sets" (funny article on Beatportal)

http://www.beatportal.com/feed/item...heir-live-sets/

quote:

Poor old Justice are having a hard week. Last Thursday the duo admitted in an interview that their album [] contained at least 400 uncleared samples, and now comes this photo which shows the pair faking it during a live set.

The MIDI controller on the left aint plugged in, but the tall fuzzy-haired one is pretending that it is - hes got an intense concentrated look on his face whilst moving the faders and knobs. Busted!

The thing is - this may not be the best place to discuss this topic - live electronic music is a hard thing to do.

Anyone with a shred of understanding of how the music is made knows that its near impossible to play electronic music 100% live, unless you have the talent of somebody like The Bays, who can play improvised dance music using only instruments.

Daft Punk might just be the best live dance act of the last few years, but their set is pre-programmed down to every last beat.

When youve got a superbly powerful light show and a giant pyramid light thingy in sync with the music, theres no way the show could be pulled off without pre-programming it.

So what are dance bands like Justice supposed to do? At least make an effort, and control some of the filters and FX to give the impression of a live performance.

Or remember to plug the damn MIDI controllers in and smile.

hah douches

Look at that hair. You could mop a floor with it.

Posted by Anas Attia on Nov-19-2008 00:26:

lol

they try to sound like daft punk and fake it like daft punk

Posted by Owen M on Nov-19-2008 00:27:

why am I not even shocked?
thats super gay faking playing live, but tleast they make some good tunes.

Posted by Adam420 on Nov-19-2008 01:03:

That's not news to me. They mentioned at the beginning of their Essential Mix that they usually record their sets in advance because they're normally drunk at parties and are afraid that their sets will come out sounding like shit.

They're too ugly to not be making their own music.

I don't know that for sure, but you could also ask that question about any popular artist regarless of genre.

Posted by teufel-man on Nov-19-2008 01:35:

hahhaa that is tooo awesome! I love seeing pics/vids of people faking it! the level of patheticness amazes me!

Funny how people like these guys make thousands and thousands of dollars on world tours when all they are doing is playing a a pre-mixed CD in front of crowds and dancing like retards, while pretending they are actually doing something up there

Best part is, no one in the crowd probably can tell or even cares.... the set is probably far better than it would be if they were actually doing it live!

Posted by Shaya007 on Nov-19-2008 01:38:

LOL!

They have one hell of a production studio, probably the most packed studio ive ever seen, not saying that's reason enough but its enough for me not to loose all confidence in them

And I have a pretty sweet dj setup but it only sounds good when friends come over that really know how to dj.

Good point.

This shows me that the whole DJ'ing/production thing is more of a job for these guys now as opposed to just loving what their doing. Not that I can blame them for this....

I would get bored if I were up there for a few hours not actually doing anything, plus it would be super awkward! I think it would almost be harder to fake it than to actually do it for real. They must be good actors!

Posted by elFreak on Nov-19-2008 02:47:

considering the music they make is utter shit and people still love them, i don't think anyone cares as long as they get to wear neon leggings and shutter glasses.

As long as the hipsters think they are suppose to like certain music, they will like it regardless. They just want to be seen as 'cool' by fellow hipsters!

Sorry I am an utter failure

I keep getting Justice and MSTRKRFT mixed up

Posted by The Highroller on Nov-19-2008 03:06:

As it was said already, I doubt anyone who goes to a Justice concert notices or even cares.

And lol @ the 10/10 French glum French indifference expression on the guy on the right's face.
