normal phones vs smart phones
i'm going to get myself a new cell phone tonight, and i'm debating making the upgrade to a Blackberry Pearl. i've never had a cell phone plan with internet access before. voice, text, and picture messaging are about the fanciest things i've ever done with a cell phone... but i keep thinking of those instances where i really needed directions to an address or needed to find info on a business, and how awesome threaded text messaging is.
so, for other people who have made the jump from normal service to smart phone service... is it worth the extra $20 a month?
yes... of course I don't actually pay for my phone, but if I did... I'd say yes.
In one word, yes.
In two words, fuck yes!
Just remember that once you have all the wonders in the world right there in your pocket its awfully hard, if not impossible, to go back to just a regular phone.
With a blackberry you pay for the blackberry plan, its $30 + your normal plan costs, and it includes internet, picture mail and unlimited text messages. so if youre paying 10 for unlimited texts, and 10 for picture mail, then its really only 10 bucks more per month.
I got a black berry a few years ago and i cannot for the life of me get any other phone..... they don't call them crackberrys for a joke...... they are addictive....
honestly its like having a laptop in your pocket.... a laptop with gps
and in canada with rogers you are allowed to teather your cellphone to your laptop and use it as a wireless modem and you can use your existing data plans (mine is 3 gb per month) so when i travel i can jack my laptop in to check my mail.
i just got the treo 680...
i am delighted
very easy to use and good feel
for 180 CDN pretty much new, a bargain

basically it's $45 for me to get the "Everything Messaging" plan with 450 minutes + unlimited text/pic messaging... or $63 to get "Everything Data" with 450 minutes + unlimited text/pic messaging + unlimited data (web surfing, email, etc).
prices are before taxes and fees, of course, but considering i haven't paid for a cell phone in over a year i think i can probably splurge.

i don't want touch screen, i don't want to wait a month, and i don't want to buy the most expensive smart phone available.

i never really ever found a reason to get one of those crazy super phones. i never need directions, cause i'm just that good w/ geography. and i never really needed to take pictures, cause i almost always have my camera.
but there were a few times...admittedly enough; that i did not have my camera, and i was like, "OMG TAKE A PICTURE" and had them send it to me.
but for those random, few, occasions? to pay an extra $20 a month? not worth it, imo
