Dr. Phil

Why the hate? I am neutral as I don't give a shit about anything somehow related to Oprah. Just curious.

Isn't any talk show on TV?

yes you are right about that. But if you want to solve your problems, it's not going to take 1 show. phil doesn't even investigate teh past of his guests in much depth. he uses the "change your mindset NOW, it's on YOU" technique of psychology or whatever, when maybe their past is the reason they are what they are.

Maybe the fact that he's essentially taking advantage of people who are seriousely sick and need credible professional help and tricking them into believing that they're getting that help, all for his own profit?

How is a change now and it's on you any different than a psychologist or psychiatrist? They still put it on you to start and enact the change now. The past is no excuse to continue bad behavior. Just a reason why it happened.

On the profit aspect, you could say that psychologists and psychiatrists are doing it for profit also. Although I do fully understand that they have gone through an accredited program at a university for this stuff to understand fully (at least at the time of instruction) the human psyche.

no doubt, you are right gehzumteufel. all im saying is there are more techniques out there, and because you only have an hour on tv, you have to make it tv friendly.

How is a certified MD prescribing you antibiotics for a potentially lethal infection any different from a voodoo shaman masquerading as a certified professional giving you toxic potions that can potentially make your condition worse and kill you even faster?

Wholeheartedly agree.

I am just playing devils advocate. I am enjoying this discussion. Not saying one is better than the other, just pointing it out for discussions sake.

I'm not sure what you're trying to point out.

Don't you think there's a big difference between seeking compensation for a professional service and exploiting people with complete disregard to their health and well being?

Dr. Phil is a horse's ass.

dickipedia article

Probably the most hillarious thing about it is that it's pretty much a rewording of his wikipedia article.

It is, quite heavily.

Isn't that true regardless of the country?

I do see a difference. One has a massive amount of education under their belt that the other does not usually have. They have a much better understanding of all the knowledge available at the time of their education in their respective field.

Yeah because that is what makes someone shit.

Quite possibly, but I don't have access, nor do I care about TV in general. I hardly watch any of it.

Neither do I, really, but I've never heard anyone say TV is good in their country

I hate the guy because he is not even a licensed psychiatrist anymore, there are reasons that texas did not reissue his license, and also he has blatantly violated HIPPA rules in the past. I don't care if the person he violated the rules for was so known for being crazy, it doesn't make it right. I don't mind aversive therapy when used in the right situation (this is where I blame the guests for even coming on the show) however I wonder about his true intentions.

Dr. Dru FTW
