John Digweed 1995 EM Appreciation Thread

Carried over from here so as not to derail that discussion.

Part 1: [[ LINK REMOVED ]]

1. Young American Primitive - Daydream (Zoe Magic)
2. Young American Primitive - Over And Out (Zoe Magic)
3. Simply Red - Remembering The First Time (A&G Division's Great Divide Dub) (Eastwest)
4. Lighthouse Family - Ocean Drive (Blue Amazon Dub) (Polydor)
5. Daphne - Change (Brothers In Rhythm Remix) (Stress)
6. Sasha & Marie - Be As One (deConstruction)
7. Quivver - Believe in Me (Perfecto)
8. Tenth Chapter - Wired (Jackpot)

Part 2: [[ LINK REMOVED ]]

1. Zee - Dreamtime (Quivver Dub) (More Protein)
2. Zee - Dreamtime (Quivver Vocal Remix) (More Protein)
3. Libra Presents Taylor - Anomaly (Calling Your Name) (BT & Taylor Original Mix) (Musicnow)
4. Spirits - Don't Bring Me Down (Chris & James Remix) (MCA)
5. BT & Sasha - Heart of Imagination (deConstruction)
6. Crescendo - Are You Out There (ffrr)
7. Blue Amazon - No Other Love (Jackpot)

This tracklist is pretty complete, although I need a confirmation on the Don't Bring Me Down remix and which A&G remix of Simply Red is featured. (EDIT: Don't Bring Me Down remix is now confirmed)

This is a great set from Diggers, playing many of the same records he used on the second Renaissance Mix Collection, only mixed far, far better here (in my opinion). Like a lot of Digweed sets from this era it finishes with the immense No Other Love from Blue Amazon.

Share yo' love.

I was listening to this in the car tonight. Quite frankly I'm surprised by what Digweed put together here.

Definitely have more respect for the bloke now. I look forward to his next gig in Los Angeles.

that part one... from around 40:00 to 46:00, "be as one" is just pure fucking bliss

PURE. BLISS.

This is how trance was meant to be. ASOT can eat a bag of dicks.

Awesome.

Good ol' 90s.

I still have to download this...but I enjoy his Renaissance Mix Collection so I'm pretty sure I will appreciate

Amazing set.

Nice set.

I always loved "Be As One", unfortunatly it was shorted at many compilations, so nice to hear it here.

Lots of vocals used back then by the way.

"Tenth Chapter - Wired" draw my attention, because I think this one is amazing, so I wanted to compare both:

Tenth Chapter - Wired (The Stonk Remix)

Is there a word for wishing you were born ~15 years earlier? That's what listening to all these '95 mixes do to me.

Thanks for uploading this. I'll have a listen as soon as I can.

In the UK and before the Criminal Justice Act.

This mix is a testament to great DJing.

This is definitely a different sound from Diggers compared to what he became (even more) famous for. Most people associate him with the deeper and darker sound he's been playing variations on for well over a decade now. That darker sound was evident in his Bedrock productions from this period, but his sets were more euphoric and upbeat at the time. I hear people say Digweed is boring occasionally, but there's nothing boring about this set.

Thanks alot for uploading this. This is the only Diggers set i've ever heard from this era. It's so mind blowing, would bring me to tears if i were to hear a set like this at a club.

One of my favorites from Diggers. Doesn't matter what genre he plays, it's always class. Just shows his skill as a DJ.

If you like the Digweed EM you will love this one. Labeled as Sasha @ Angels. This set has always bugged me. I'm convinced its actually John Digweed. The cassette version of this had 3 tracks missing when it was released 10. Zee - Dreamtime (Dub) 11. Zee - Dreamtime (Original Mix) & 23. E'Voke - Runaway. A lot of the tracks in this set appeared on John Digweeds Essential Mix that was broadcast a few weeks later. Im not convinced Sasha or John copy each other and play the two versions of Dreamtime but maybe I'm wrong. Ive come across people who clam they where there that night. Interestingly the Sasha Live @ Angels Vol 1 is supposed to be recorded from angels on June 10, 1995. However I'm told Sasha didn't appear that night. I think vol1 was recorded on 5 August and vol 2 is John Digweed. That's my conspiracy theory anyway. Anyway its a brilliant set

Sasha (Or Digweed) 5th August 1995, Angels, Burnley

Sasha played the back-to-back mixes of Dreamtime as well. He did it on the 11-4-1995 Essential Mix Live @ The Que Club, which is probably my favourite DJ mix of all time. They actually copied each other a fair amount- Digweed used to do back-to-back mixes of One Earth Beat by Dum Dum just like Sasha at this time, for example. The two of them played a lot of the same tracks around this time, so this could potentially be either of them. However, that tracklist does look damn similar to the EM we're talking about, and there's also tracks on there that Diggers played on the second Renaissance Mix Collection, so I think you might be onto something.

Thanks for sharing, as well. Will give this one a listen tonight.

Crescendo - Are You Out There

There's a 20 minute version called Symphonic Variations which I'm trying to track down.
