Talking

Im getting the virus c, should be arivin any day soon . I know the racks arent as good as the other synths, less oscillators etc. The keyboard ones are just that, the standard synth with a keyboard attached. The indigo versions arent as good as the standard ones in a lot of ways, ie they dont have as many outs but think they should sound exactly the same and they do look awesome. The people at access say the indigos dont sound as good as the standard ones but cant see how they dont, if i had a laptop id defo get the indigo. I think the virus c and b are gonna sound well similar to each other but aparently the virus b sounds loads better than the virus a. Fuk knows!!!!!

Virus C is basicly an upgraded Virus B, some new stuff like i believe 3 band equalising on each channel increased polyphony and complexer modulation matrix and some new interface stuff -nothing to buy a new one for- . The Virus indigo 2= Virus C but it is compacter and better looking IS DOES HAVE THE SAME AMOUNT OF OUTS (6!), they are really identical on the inside. Important !! : There is a new rack virus that has all the same features of his big brothers (i believe it is called the rack XL) but in a 1u rack form and then there is the other rack virus that has some less features (2 main osc, less polyphony, less outs, etc but killer price)then the desktop/indigo/kc/rack xl
That's about it i think, hope this clears things out

the new Virus C, KC, Indigo2 and XL all produce the exact same sounds. The only difference is that they may have less knobs, leds or keys. take a look at this comparision chart

some major upgrades on the new Virus C models

- Max 32 Voices
- 3 band EQ per part
- Completely redesigned user interface (looks much sexier!)
- Dedicated undo/redo/random button for rapid sound development
- Double the amount of modmatrix sources
- extra knobs/buttons (3-band parametric EQ, Seperate Delay/Reverb, Effects, ARP, Full-spec LFO3)
- Selectable titles for the SoftKnobs (previously called "Definable").
- More LEDs. Lovely red display.

the virus C's also run on a new generation of motorola processor chips which means there will be lots, LOTS, LOTS!! more OS upgrades in the future which wasn't really possible with the old Virus.

im interested, in knowing what is the diffrence on having the virus with the keyboard. explain to me like the newbie i am

Posted by Pjotr G on Jun-04-2002 17:41:

*cough*

it's a bunch of black and white keys that allow you to play notes using you fingers to push on there keys

no honestly that's like the only difference between virus C and Virus C K(eyboard)

I think at least? hope i'm not wrong.

if you don't have any controller keyboard then its best to get a virus KC(one with keyboard) or buy a virus C and a seperate controller keyboard. Quite a few people have said that the keys of the virus feels really nice to jam with. Apart from the keys there is no difference among the Virus models.

sorry to sound like this hehe it's just that i didn't get how can you make sounds from synth with no keys? so now i understand that you do that using a controller, im guessin i can get synth like the virus c and a cheap keyboard to control it? or how would i go from doing it with no keyboard, and only a computer?

thanks for your patience guys

Yes you will need a controller keyboard to play out the notes and hear the sounds if you buy a Virus C

If you're trying to save some $$$, get the Virus C and a cheap controller keyboard. You can also take this route if you think you will buy more equipment (like the virus C) in the future and could use your controller keyboard to control them. But keep in mind you can also use the keyboard of the KC as a master controller for other equipment.

you could do that by just drawing in notes on your sequencer programme which would not be convienient.

^^^^^^ sorry for more basic knowledge, had only really read about the virus b synths, didnt know all the virus cs were the same. im stupid.

If you are into making trance and you have a musical background don't doubt to buy a midi keyboard so you can play the tracks in realtime and quantize them. If you're into making techno I think it is less important to buy a midi keyboard as techno is more about experiment with synthesis and sounds and making a banging bassline then creating an uplifting melody. If you use a hardware synth without keyboard like the virus C and you don't have a keyboard I think you are better off if you buy the KC, they you have a 61 key solid keyboard with aftertouch and velocity sensitivity and a kickass synth at once. If keyboard is less important and you have a small budget you 'll save some money if you buy the synth and a small midi keyboard
