Smiley DJ Whatever happened to Sander Van Doorn?

Last year he was big stuff, this year it seemed like not so much. Why?

Oh he's been around, maybe not so many releases, but he has been DJ'ing a lot.

He was pumping out tunes like a madman for awhile there between productions and remixes. 2006 - mid-2007, but as he's gotten a ton more bookings it means less time to produce.

He's way more focused on tech (eg. tech-trance) these days.

Think in finding that direction he hit a lull period...earlier this year he released an artist ablum (Supernaturalistic) and I think he's back on track and making some great tunes again...if you like that style he has gone with. I do, but I do know a lot of people who were blown away by him a couple years ago that don't like the style he's playing these days....glad he's following the direction he wants to go, but he's lost momentum because of it.

All in my opinion.

Who?

Posted by Aaron C. on Dec-03-2008 15:06:

I just remember hearing tons of stuff about him everywhere i looked last year. Then suddenly nothing. I liked his mixes around the time he blew up, but haven't heard anything as of lately. I wasn't to fond of the artist album.

true true, that makes sense.

taking what others said;

this year, many many dj gigs, new album to promote, and very little time to produce means less hype.

He's just not the current hot shit now since he's gotten so big.

nothing

would be great if he started producing some purple haze tracks again.

adrenaline was such a ch00n during wmc '05

Posted by Thierry on Dec-03-2008 20:22:

He's playing here in Edmonton tonight. I'm honestly not a huge fan of his at all, a couple good remixes like Wamdue Project, but he has quite the huge following now. Defo more gigs and less studio time for him.

exactly what has been said. too much touring and promoting the album. barely had any time in the studio this year, which is also why his releases have been lacking in the style we've grown accustomed to hearing from him. he did however just have a nice almost month long break from touring so hopefully we'll be hearing some tight stuff coming in the next few months. i dont even know whats new to come from him. i know he did the dawn raid remix, the other track with marco v i havent heard either... and i dunno what to make of these "untitled" or "new purple haze" tracks. this is the first i hear of it. might just be bull, but i dunno.

some info would be nice if anyone knows more.

The untitled one is already out on vinyl:

The new Purple Haze track is entitled 'Roundabout' and has been one of SVD's biggest crowd pleasers for months now and has only been promo'ed to a very select few by Spinnin' so you should expect to see this in early 2009.

oh wow. would love to hear a sample then.

edit: im not 100% sure this is sander. it seems odd that its under a german label when hes got a label of his own.
edit2: sample available here:
http://www.nuloop.com/en/vinyl-records/house/detail/71663/svd-svd.html
its just a remix of his remix of the girl you lost to cocaine.

no probs man

I will say tho if you are a fan of Sanders old Purple Haze releases then you will love the new one. It has the same Dark yet Melodic feel that his older stuff had

if you dont mind me asking, where did you get a chance to hear it?

Posted by lwigii on Dec-04-2008 10:22:

I remember hearing Adrenaline on ASOT for the first time.

One of my favourite tracks from the guy.

Posted by PatMcGroin on Dec-04-2008 17:12:

in sander's december newsletter its identified as:
Sam Sharp - Roundabout (Sander van Doorn Main Mix)

Posted by Chimney on Dec-04-2008 18:32:

Sander is the greatest example of a great producer that went down the river. I remember his "Direkt Dizko" and "Breathe" remix days...now he's just a minimal producer that lost his soul.
