Smiling thinly at the question, posed over a crackling phone line by a man in the Russian city of Penza, Putin, who has in the past used coarse language to hammer home a point, waited for the laughter of his studio audience to subside before replying: "But why only by one part?" Up until now, Russian officials had described the talks with the French president as a "tough dialogue" but did not deny that Putin had made such a comment. Putin then frowned and blamed Saakashvili for triggering the brief war and compared his attack on the breakaway region of South Ossetia with the U.S.-led 2003 invasion of Iraq. "Seriously speaking, both me and you know about tragic events in another region of the world, in Iraq, invaded by American troops due to a concocted pretext of searching for weapons of mass destruction," said Putin. "They found no weapons, but hanged the head of state, albeit on other charges ... " said Putin, referring to the 2006 execution of former Iraqi President Saddam Hussein. "I believe it is up to Georgia's people to decide what kind of responsibility must be borne by those politicians who led to these harshest and tragic consequences," he said. Months of skirmishes between separatists and Georgian troops erupted into war in August when Georgia sent troops and tanks to retake the pro-Russian rebel region of South Ossetia, which threw off Tbilisi's rule in 1991-92. Russia responded with a counter-strike that drove the Georgian army out of South Ossetia. Moscow's troops then pushed further into Georgia, saying they needed to prevent further Georgian attacks. The West condemned Russia for a "disproportionate response" to Georgia's actions. Russia said Georgia's attack on civilians and Russian peacekeeping troops in South Ossetia left it with no other option. Georgia accused Moscow of launching a premeditated and unprovoked invasion of its territory.

You have a total "Russians are fucked up" notion as if we are all hating and want to kill Georgians. While that may be the case for some, that is not the case for most. And although I think Russia responded a little harshly, Georgia should have never played with fire. You play with fire long enough and you are going to get burned some time or another. This was the time Georgia got burned. Period.

And I admire him for a lot of what he has done for the working class, but that is overshadowed by the shit he has fucked up for the working class. He has brought Russia back in line with a very controlled state that could easily make the step back to a totalitarian regime. He had already made inroads to give the PM more power over the government, moving different things from parliamentary decisions to his own policy decisions, etc.

you can put periods wherever you want there buddy but the truth is there is no truth. nobody knows how this shit started or who started it. some say it was separatist who attacked the georgian checkpoints in tskinvali and georgians called for militia for defence. some say georgian militia started bombing tskinvali streets out of nowhere. you can believe whatever you want and make judgments, it doesn't bother me

what was fishy about it was that russian artillery with hundreds of tanks and aircrafts were minutes away from the conflict zone. it seemed as fight wasn't even broken out when they were already there. it seems as... eknow what i don't really feel like going back and forth with this

ps i dont hate russians, i know and have russian friends, i just hate the government and how things are run over there, i understand i might of said some things back then out of the frustration, ffs my family was in the war zone, minutes away from the fight, i was kind of riled up

Taking from the accounts that were NOT from the Russian nor the Georgian media, there are MANY eye witnesses that had their own apartments bombed, etc, for no reason. There was no one gathering, no conflict, etc, but people in S. Ossetia getting bombed. I will try to find the report and link it to you.
