Blackberry Pearl 8100...

Got one of these over the weekend, some american left it in a strip bar and my buddy who bartends there found it and gave it to me. He doesn't have Rogers so he had no use for it...

1) Anyone know how to unlock it? It's AT&T Cingular, want to use my Roger's SIM
2) Anyone know how to debrand it?
3) Where can I get some cool apps and themes for it?
4) Should I upgrade the firmware? What is a good one to use?
5) If unlocked, can I still use the GSM and WIFI? Will my unlimited internet package with Rogers ($20 Value Pack) work for the internet on it or do I need to upgrade to an actual data plan?

Thanks...

Don't be a jerk Sandeep. I know I'd die if I lost my phone...this person is probably freaking out too, especially for a nice phone like that. Try calling some of the people on the last called list.

give it back.

haha i can't believe you posted this!

I didn't take it take it...

Buddy found it in the couch at a strip club, it musta been there for a week since they don't get into them that often and the battery was totally dead. Nobody reported a lost phone or anything at the bar, and when we did power it back up, it's from chicago, so it's not like I can even give it back to them. We even tried txting or calling the last numbers but it won't dial (probably reported it lost and they cut the service/sim)

I know what you are all saying, I would want my phone back too... i'm not trying to be a jerk. Even if I go to the states, and return it to a Cingular store, doubt they'll even go through the trouble to get it back to the person.

Posted by Irishaddict on Dec-09-2008 03:18:

all you have to do is search the contacts for 'home' and dial it from another phone...

Posted by chimera66 on Dec-09-2008 03:21:

that's mean to keep someone's phone. give it back or if you don't want to deal with the hassle ask someone trustworty to do it. chances are you'll receive a reward so you win anyway

Posted by Mach X on Dec-09-2008 03:23:

Alright alright, i'll go through the contacts again...

pure lies

I'll go through them again, yes... i've returned many things actually, been working in bars/clubs for years whenever we came up with a phone during cleanin, I've taken phones tons of times to the telus store and rogers and bell. The only reason I didn't bother with this one was because it was american and not even local america like Detroit, but Chicago. And I don't plan on being stateside for a while to take back to the Cingular store. But i'll check the contacts again.

give this guy a break.

I'm sure you're not all perfect angels out there.

I'd flash that firmware so fast it'd make my own head spin

Then get rid of it, because Pearls are dime a dozen

RIM will lock the PIN soon so any BES/BIS services won't work. Might as well return it.

I dunno about others, but when it comes to lost stuff I always give it back, unless it's some random $20 bill or something you see on the ground and couldn't possibly find the rightful owner. I found a camera at a club once and was thinking about keeping it, but I felt pretty guilty as I know how much I would cry if I lost my camera and someone had taken it, so I gave it to the bartender at the club. If they keep it, that's on the blood is on their hands. At least I tried to get it back to the rightful owner.

Also, ^5 to Sandeep for having taking a look at the contacts again, or trying to return it to a store. Knowing him personally, I'm sure he'll actually do it.

Someone took my blackberry once, an 8100.. (i know this is different, u found it) but i honestly was depressed for months... lost everything.. blackberry is life!

Posted by jalalinator on Dec-09-2008 10:32:

is there any way for rogers to know that a certain phone is in use? NO I didnt steal a phone, I don't feel like explaining right now but if need be I will.. just wondering..

Just can't let someone part ways with their Blackberry if you have any say about it... think of the contacts, the notes, the sms's and the brickbreaker records, my god think of the brickbreaker record!!!

Anyways, just google "unlock blackberry" and you'll find a few paid services that will do it for you overnight...

Coincidently, a software just leaked days ago that enabled you to unlock the code yourself... however, RIM saw to it that it disappeared of the web within hours...for now anyways.

Posted by dEsidEL on Dec-09-2008 14:50:

if you can find dirty pictures of the owner and their significant other you can surely sell it back to them for triple the price if not more..

I was just going to post the software. Except everything that was associated to it has now permantently been erased.

But yes, there are tons of stuff around there!
