Oh god, I think I'm pregnant!!!
Hi fellow TA's!
Long time I've put a decent track of myself up here, and I'm working on this for quite a few days now. I finally think I've got the bass/kick sorted which was hell a lot of work but the resluts are very nice indeed
It's made in a trance 2008/2009 style, completely up to date imo.
I would love to hear comments and especially constructive criticism!

You've definitely got the kick/bass sorted, they're very nice indeed. Awesomely chunky which completely suits the track. Do you mind sharing a brief description of what you used synth-wise and production-wise?
Track showed a lot of promise, with the fat kick/bass and the nice percs coming in. I didn't particularly like the melody and progression after around 1:26, the melody doesn't go too well with the bassline for my ears.
Loved the stutter around 3:00, at first I thought my headphones had crapped out. nice! It was certainly unpredictable, props to you
At around 1:00 to 1:20, the loud melody line sounds like its drowning out the kick/bass, you can hear the kick/bass get softer. It's either intentional, or you might need to eq that loud melody line to stop it intefering with the bottom-end. Or lower the volume a bit, it may be too loud in general.
Nice work mate!
Hey man,
thanks for listening! I'm glad you liked the bass, I've put a lot of work in it haha. Or well, it was actually sorting out the right sounds. The bass consists of a layer Vanguard and Nexus, slightly compressed into one channel, and I used a stereo seperator. Or a stereo enhancer like FruityLubes calls it (which is what I used
).
First, there's a notch filter on the bass @ 120 Hz and a High pass cutting off everything lower then 80 Hz.
Then, there's a notch filter on the kick @ 200 Hz (in the spectrum I could see that there was a giant peak from the bass around there) and a High pass cutting off everything lower then 40 Hz.
It is possible that the lead is too loud, for me it's easier to listen to that on speakers but since you also listened on headphones I'll try cranking down the volume of EQ'ing it more.
Then again, I don't actually know what to do with it. The sound was cool to me at first, but i'm getting my doubts.
Does the melody soundwise r rhythmwise interfere with the bass?
It doesn't interfere with the bassline. I just thought the melody / bassline progression could have been a better match, however it is kinda subjective. the bassline has an 8 bar phrase, the first 4 bars sound great but the second 4 bars loses a bit of power. But then again, the melody / sound is sorta edgey and techy, which means maybe a more powerful progression is not suitable here. ? Hope that clears up my comment
Cheers for the info on the bassline production. As for the kick, listen to it when it plays by itself at 1:23, and then listen to the kick just afterwards - the kick drops in volume quite a bit. Listening to it again, maybe its the bass that is squeezing the kick, and not the melody. OR maybe i'm just on teh crack. heh i dunno
I've got it sorted out a little more now, thanks for the pointers man
Any other opinions?
