Software or hardware? Price range?

software and as far as price range goes not to sure yet, depends on the vst in hand. i can make good loops without one at the moment im lookin to make some heavy/chucky loops so

Unless you are using good hardware the sound of your drums really comes from samples not the sampler or drum machine itself.

yeah i think the problem for me at the moment ive hit a bit of a writers block as far as making loops was concerned.
and needed a new toy to play with rater then going for the obvious choice.

If I wanted to work with software for my drums I would be using Guru + samples.

Guru is the ultimate tool for your needs. If you're on a tight budget, you should try iDrum. It looks bad but it's very good and easy to use. Then there's also Microtonic from sonic charge. It's all analog, though, so you get no sample play.

If you were on the mac, I'd say ultrabeat in logic express or pro, but I guess you're a windows user...

yeah im on win vista but thanks for the imput guys i might try looking for some drumloop sample packs and take it from their.
only i like to make all my own sounds

What's wrong with using FL's step sequencer and sample packs?

Honestly, I think you're going to be quickly disappointed if you pick up any vintage drum machine; Elektron's machine drum might appeal to you, though.

Nothing, but something like Guru allows for a lot more flexibility and creativity in my opinion. And it isn't too expensive. I would like a machinedrum from Elektron myself, but I think that is overkill in this situation.

I've been a long time Battery user and love it to death however lately I've been using iDrum and have been pretty impressed with it. I'd check it out.

Akai MPC 1000 with the JJ OS!

Reaktor dude. All the drum machine goodness your puny ears can handle.

I would class guru, battery etc as just drum samplers. If you want a drummachine for electronic music i would suggest elektron's machinedrum. The sequencer and synthesis capabilities are awesome. I wouldn't bother with a classic machine like the 808 or 909 unless you really love the sound.

The machinedrum is really great although I prefer JoMox, but he is looking for software.
