Itamar Sagi - One Million Oaks (Soma)

quote:
Itamar Sagi's nature-inspired "One Million Oaks" is a serene paradox: A big tune with a warm heartthe kind of mish-mash of dance floor domination and cosy bedroom listening Border Community lust after. Sure, the track's cyclical synth stabs make it out to be a duplicate of Deadmau5's "Faxing Berlin," but there's none of those middle-ground trance-esque chord progressions here. Instead, we have undulating hypnotic looping begging to soundtrack fast-passing scenery la Chem Brother's "Star Guitar." It's an understated expander you could drift off to... but never ignore.

This trance-inducing single is an evolution from the party bomb "Black Gold" Funk D'Void unveiled on his Sci-fi Hi-fi mix earlier this year. Sagi's Detroit techno influence, so identifiable in throwbacks like "Black Gold" and "Creamary," isn't obvious on "One Million Oaks." Despite hard tech kick-drum, dub bass, industrial hissing hi-hat runs and the odd organic click, the track is clearly sympathetic to progressive elements. The percussion is quieter in the mix between layers that crescendo and slip in and out. With this dreamy big hitter, crafted round sentiment, it's clear the Tel Aviv composer is confidently carving his own musical identity.

On the flipside the aforementioned D'Void shifts the all-important stabs to the offbeat and builds a laid-back lounging house groove into an intricate mosaic patterning of swelling synths, buzzing bass lines and tumbling toms. It's very much a case of blink-and-you-might-miss-something in this complex swinging house number. One for the car and one for the loungeand both to kill a dance floor.

Picked up both tracks which is quite rare for me (usually I restrict myself to one track per release, I don't know why). Anyway I love this tune! Has anybody else got this?

I'm LOVING the original, such a stormer. The Funk D'Void Remix is also ace. I'll be picking both up as well

I prefer the original, but Funk D'Voids remix is also very good. Awesome release overall.

Agreed with the gentleman here.

the funk d'void mix doesn't work at all for me - the overload of pads and percussion don't gel together, but the original is fantastic!

itamar sagi has really carved out a great sound for himself.

Both of the mixes are absolutely stunning ones IMO, but the Funk D'Void's version is slightly even better. Quality piece of music which is going to be a dancefloor hit forthcoming weeks or months I suppose.

Absolutely loving both cuts. This must be an old track that I haven't heard before, I can hear the vinyl static on the MP3.

Luckily I own the CD so I can tell you. This is weird, I never noticed this before. It says Written and produced by Deschampes @ Dec studios. Publishes bt Copyright Control, and licensed courtesy of Be As One. It also points to this non-existent MySpace profile.

Well I wrote to Mr. Sagi and he quickly replied telling me that it was simply a misunderstanding. Whatever that means...
