Shopping: Electronics & stuff....

Has any one here ever bought anything from TigerDirect.com? Were you satisfied?

tigerdirect is a good site, they have been a stable, trusted internet biz for many years.

Same with newegg.com

Our department buys stuff from them all the time and we've never had a problem. I've ordered something personally too and think they're awesome Usually, everything arrives really fast.

ordered a laptop from there a few years back, no problems.

tigerdirect is/was infamously bad. maybe they've improved. a simple purchase of a new item in stock might be straightforward but the trouble seems to start if you try to do anything beyond like needing a return or exchange, expecting some rebate, finding an incorrectly charged credit card.... it'll become a pain.

newegg is my fav online electronics retailer and most geeks' favorite as well. and bhphotovideo for camera gear.

It's been a couple of years that I've been holding off on buying a 46" - 50" flat screen TV. I usually buy my electronic stuff through Circuit City or Costco but lately, I've been seeing some pretty good deals on TigerDirect.

Decisions, decisions...

i think that's a bit too risky of a purchase for tigerdirect. that's totally a costco kind of purchase. have you browsed any deal sites like fatwallet ? i see a couple good tv deals floating around there right now

Circuit City is going out of business and they have some really good deals.

tigerdirect.com is a great e-tailer

newegg.com is also great.

someone mentioned fatwallet

slickdeals.net is also a great site to find deals on electronics, and other things.

Never heard of fatwallet.com and I was too was thinking about making a risky purchase. I'd feel safer with Circuit City even if it's going out of business. My favorite place.

I purchased a hard drive for a laptop about 3 years ago from TigerDirect, had no problems.

i shop almost exclusively at newegg myself, but i did not encounter any problems returning a quadcore and motherboard to tigerdirect.

i've read a lot of complaints about tigerdirect, even though i've bought one or two things from them and had no problems.

however, you really can't go wrong with newegg. they are amazing.

Yeah, Amazon has had some good deals on LCDs this season, I recommend checking them out.

I have only had good experiences with tigerdirect. Never a problem with what I bought and the one time I wanted to return an item, which was actually refurbished (I knew that when I bought it) and in theory non returnable but only exchangeable for the same item, they let me return it without a problem.

Fatwallet.com is an online community, which has a forum section just like tranceaddict.com to discuss current DEALS and COUPONS... it is not an actual store where u can purchase something from the site, but it is indeed a very good place to find deals!

Trin, I suggest you don't buy TV from online website, my primary concern is on the shipping... sometimes they don't cover the insurance, and I'm not too sure about the shipping and handling policy. It's just not worth the risk of saving $200-$300 online, but let's say the TV will break in 3 months and you'd have to ship it back to get it repaired.. I'd save the hustle and buy a TV from a safer and trusted source (i.e. BestBuy), but that's IMO

Posted by TSG on Dec-13-2008 04:45:

That was my main concern too Alvin. I don't like Best Buy. I'd rather just go to Costco.

Thanks guys! Now who wants to pitch in and buy me a 46" flat screen TV?

If you're patient, just troll woot.com . They sell random stuff, but I got my TV from them (A 37" Westinghouse), and I love it! Plus the shipping is $5 for all their items...Plus, since you're not in Texas, there's no sales tax!
