Maxwell Dub - My 3rd Ear [deep/groovin'/atmospheric/funkynessexplosion]

This mix is all about the deep dub reggae influenced techno that starts out reeeallly slow and chill (118bpm) and moves into some more experimental dubtech. Its the result of the past couple afterparties I've been to here in Chicago, dancing around in the early morning hours and raging well past the sun coming up. For me, the afterhours are all about deep dubby techno grooves contrasted with bits of funk and that's what I tried to bring through with this mix. This mix also features quite a bit of talent from Boston, chiefly from the Soul Clap guys who have stepped up their production to amazing heights. Check it out, I guarantee you'll be groovin' in no time.

I don't usually toot my own horn, but personally, I think this is the best mix I've been able to do in 7 years of DJing. I hope you'll agree =)

Hey dude, what happened during Elif? I was really enjoying this and it just cut off at the beginning of the song and resumed when it was being mixed out of. Otherwise it's a great mix but this kind of interrupted the flow.

I think your download was corrupted, try downloading it again. I haven't heard anyone else say there were gaps

Thanks for the comments guys!!

Well the first 20 minutes really didn't grab me, just too boring.
But I'm about 2/3 done the mix now and it's got me groovin.
What is the track that starts around 43 minutes? That's a real nice one.

Posted by Max Thomson on Dec-24-2008 16:50:

that would be the timewriter - limelight

good stuff, max. listened to this on the way home for the holidays. really dug the mix into and out of "elif", love the strange offkey chord-stab

Posted by Max Thomson on Dec-26-2008 18:24:

thanks dude I really like that transition too. I got a new pawas track today that is amazing: andre kronert - salzwasserliebe (pawas chilla-pukar remix) check it out!

I listened to this one last week. Loved it man, absolutely LOVED it. All the tracks worked great together and the set programming couldn't have been better and the mixing was so fucking tight. It had a Danny Howells kind of vibe.

Great job man, will definitely have to check out more of your past and future mixes.

I'm uploading my copy of the mix which I've listened to zillions of times and I know has no gaps so hopefully that clears up the problem.

Finally got a chance to listen to this on my way in today.

Amazing work; your experience really shows in this set. I'm pretty familiar with the origins and feel of dub techno but have never really bothered to investigate it properly. I really liked the reggae influences in some of the tracks, and the funky feel later on around the thirty-five minute mark.

Although this was definitively techno, I found it had a very different feeling to any of the sets I've heard before, and I've seen a pretty wide array of tech acts; Stacy Pullen, Joris Voorn, Shlomi Aber, Adam Beyer, etcetera. Really liked the mixing too, very smooth. Great work, this will get repeat listens from me and I'll probably pass it on to some people who I know appreciate this kind of music.

I downloaded again and it has the same error

Both files I have downloaded are 1:05:53 long. How long is it supposed to be?

Posted by Domesticated on Jan-14-2009 09:44:

I listened to this again on the way to work today.

Everyone who likes techno should download this.
