need help setting up new monitors

Got a pair of the yamaha hs80m's a little while ago. Im in the process of making a proper studio in the basement but until thats done i've set them up in the office i've been using for many years.

I'm not all that familiar with the setup of proper studio monitors. Mainly setting the levels. I've got an echo audiofire4 outputting to my hs80's through balanced 1/4" jacks. From what i've read i should have the monitors at +4db?? I really know nothing about the +4 or -10 db settings, and which should be used when. Any help here would be greatly appreciated - and an explanation why would be even better (always interested in learning new things)

Also, on the audiofire UI software i can set the DB in there as well. Choosing either +4 or -10. I assume that would be set to the same as the monitors?? I tried a bunch of different settings, just testing and when i had both the AF4 and hs80's at +4 i had to have the output volume on the audiofire pretty far down for a reasonable listening volume. That sound about right?

And the last thing was the bass output. It seems a little weak for 8" drivers. I thought if anything it would be over bassy, given the small room and they're almost up against the wall. That puzzles me, although i'm going to try and move them around a little to see if that helps.

i set my speaks to 0.0 and just use my sound card (yes at low volumes...usually -60 - -35 db) for monitoring and adjusting loudness.

HS80s are notorious for weak bass, thats why every1 gets them the saying goes if you can get bass to sound good on HS80s then it will stand out on every system.
