Satan (eek!) Ultrastellar - Theme From the Moon [oldish style trance]

Been at this track for a few days now and have approached something which i can call finished.
It started off with me just experimenting with a few arp patterns and i then built the whole track from that.
Ive added breakbeat patterns which i have never done before so it is new ground for me
Stuff used:-
FL studio
Vanguard
Nexus
V station
d_blue glitch
Roland SH-201

anyways have a listen and see what you think

Pretty good. You've got a nice "full" sound happening.

Constructives:

1. You need to tighten up your clapper snares a lot. They are weak and add no power to the track. I'd suggest some more lower end sounds and perhaps a shorter attack and release.

2. The bassline change at 2:10 sounds very strange. The track loses a lot of power because of it.

3. Repetition is good, but you've got a little too much of it. The first three minutes are pretty uneventful. I'd suggest some extra percs. You've easily got room for one or two more loops of hat or something else. Some teasers foreshadowing the main melody would also be good.

4. The breakbeat bit is really cool, but again, your snares need to be a lot snappier.

5. The main melody is nice!

6. Your hi-hats are a bit weak and dull. You just need a better sample and some EQ tweaking to make it pull through the mix.

Keep it up...

Cheers , great post.Cheers for the good feedback.
But.
Everytime i post in here i get mixed reviews about the percs and the most common one is that they dont sound full enough.
On what samples i have , i usually reverb them and maybe flange them a little before shoving them thru d_blue glitch or just upping the delay , but just wondering what tecniques everyone else uses?

This is just my cup of tea this style. Love the main melody mate really driving the song on makes me feel like I am goin somewhere. I really like the main melody great sound for it too.

Can I be honest? I think that main melody is mega! but I think you could get loads more out of this track with a melody like that. Big kick massive bass some sub melodys filter movements on the melody, variations a second drop loads man! Pls keep workin on it Id love a copy when your done

Now if only I could take my own advice Lol easy to give not easy to do!

Like the feel of it though i really do

You know what you said about percussion whenever I put an off beat hat and a bit of delay people say that too. Got to experiment like mad to keep these tas entertained. What I do is make several percussion loops in say redrum and layer them together and filter say the low end of one and the high of another. Have a send fx track and send them all there with some rev and delay on. thats what I do anyway.

Also need loads of hats I have open off beat on the 3 and a closed hat on 3 3 2 3 to add a skip to the weak beat of the bar. Also if you put the snare/clap a tick or two either side of the kick it can emphasises the snap. You can also put a closed hat on every 16th to add speed to a song. Also I make loops of short snappy glitches and layer them with the percs and hp filter them.

It has energy

seems like the snare is hidden a little I dunno if this is intentional. the low end seems a little muddy toward the end of the song. I like the main melody, great for a building, more progressive sound. I would add another melody an octave higher that's the same notes, but maybe a slight difference in sound to the main melody, to help it layer that main melody just a bit more toward the 2/3 mark. just a suggestion. Sounds like a pretty good production to me.

I'm no expert when it comes to percs, but I have tried a few things like distorting a hat to give it a crunchy sound. If you put it on the kick, it can sound pretty cool. other than that, I've been using short transient percs pretty much without modulation. Hope this helps.
