Xone 32 owners please chime in

I'm considering pulling the trigger on a local Xone 32 for $350. 1 owner, late 2002 build, apparently used at home only. Appears to be in great shape, and the seller says it's in perfect shape mechanically.

I am coming from a Vestax VMC-004 which I just got but I'm not 100% satisfied with.

So, is $350 a good price, considering the current economic climate?


Also considering an Ecler Nuo 3 or 3.0... any comments?

Last question, Audiolines is selling a B-stock Xone 32 for $404... is there any value there?

Don't 'want' it too much.

Go in there with 300 (don't take any more otherwise you'll be tempted to spend it) and offer him 300.

If he won't sell it to you for 300 then just walk. There will be plenty of other bargains to be had in the coming months.

Remain in control - because you have the cash.

If it's 100% functional, awesome price. I payed $650 CAD 2 years ago for an open box'd one.

Not a bad price but given its age it can be prone to a couple of things, first ask to hear it and test each fader individually. Used at home doesn't mean 'tip top' condition. Test the filters etc.

Downside, it is 7 years old and that is longer that you can expect most mixers to survive with constant use.

Upside, A&H mixers are built to last but are prone to a few small niggles i.e. screws falling out on the front and also the power supply having to be replaced. That said, all these things are replacable and a replacement will make your mixer almost good as new which is partly the beauty of an A&H mixer.

In terms of sound quality and over all mixer quality you are not doing too badly but I do feel that you might be able to get more bang for your buck if you hang around for a while.

Given that you can buy them for around $400 online or cheaper where you would have some kind of warranty, I would say that Jarv's advice is pretty sound.

Two years ago that was a great price, but now sadly they have come down a lot, found opened box on the net selling for $450

Sadly for us A&H users looking to upgrade, you have to part with them for a lot less than their actual value because people are more drawn to the Xone 92 and following models.

I wanted to upgrade to a Xone 92, bit the bullett and though I would try and sell my Xone 464 only to find that nobody really wants them and as a result would have to part with it for far less than I was willing to. And now I am actually glad I kept it.

I can almost guarantee that Audiolines does not have any B-Stock on hand. Do a little research and it will tell you that they are famous for pulling the bait and switch.

Gains in the back.. deal killer right there. Ecler mixers have a reputation for having excellent sound, I would not think twice about the Nuo line. I had a Nuo 2 (not 2.0) , and it was simple, the faders felt great and room for EFX if I wanted to add them.

i thought the same when i first played on one, but you get used to it afterwards.
once you get used to all the little quirks, xone32 is a decent mixer, for around 300 bucks. that is, if you're just looking for something that sounds good, and you dont want to do anything fancy with your mixer

do test the faders as they tend to pop loose after a while.

I really want to play on the Ecler... but I cannot find a retailer near me that stocks them. I do know a guy w/ a Evo 5 but I'm not sure that's a fair comparison... I will have to give him a call anyway.

Is it good enough to buy without ever playing on?

Ecler is a great brand and I fully would say go for it, but you might not like it. You can definitely compare the build and sound quality to the Evo because Ecler makes good gear and they don't have a lower line with shit components and shoddy build quality. Saying that some people don't like the width of the Q on their equalizers, but I do. That is the only gripe I've heard from anyone who has used Eclers in the past.

One major concern I had was the frequency ranges of the EQs... I hear the MID controls most of the sound... what advantages/disadvantages does that have?

I will have to go check out that Evo 5...

The mid EQ I believe has a wide Q which means it controls a larger band of frequencies than say a Pioneer mixer.
