Unhappy Nikita's last night at Circus 12/27/08

I hate to be the bearer of bad news....

"Dear Family and Friends,

Nikita regrets to inform you that as of 12/27/08 we are severing all ties with Circus Disco. Tomorrow will be our final night at the venue and we will keep you updated as to our new location some time after the New Year. We thank you for all of your hard work and support and we look forward to moving on to greener pastures and bringing our family and friends with us. Have a great holiday and we hope to see everyone soon!

Kindest Regards,
Nikita Mgmt."

I'm absolutely heartbroken over this news...

Sad

Once again, I too am heart broken. Been through this more than 6 times! I can't take it anymore!!!!

The Circus drama keeps going on and on...

This is bad news indeed. I know Gil was busting his ass, and did all he could to make it work out at circus. He did a great job, and we had quite a few great nights there in the past 3-4 months. Unfortunatly, a successful EDM night at circus is a constant uphill battle these days.

I admire Gil for giving it a shot, and thank him for allowing me to be a part of Nikita. Im sure Nikita is going to resurface somewhere soon. In the meantime, looking forward to tearing the place apart tomorrow night!

Sad news indeed

Hoping the best for both Nikita and Circus.

unfortunate news. sorry to hear.

Circus years ago were some of the best times I ever had in a club. Those were the days!

they need to sell what people want.

i don't go to either avalon or vanguard. not my cup of tea.

but, avalon is a good place for a hook up. it really does not matter what dj is playing.

i think vanguard caters to house crowd now. i am not following them any longer but they were switching.

i think owner of the circus does not like these type of crowds. he seems to be OK with smaller, quieter crowd.

Wrong.

I think Nikita could be a huge success if it can be maintained with the market (trance) it looks like its trying to capture.

If it was #s behind the departure, here are my thoughts (and this goes for anyone who tries to start things at Circus)...if not, consider my foot in my mouth.

But starting off at a venue the size of Circus is a bit difficult. For anyone. Just as your night builds up, the venue it's in should too. Start small, get bigger as the environment surrounding the night grows. It's perception. 400 people in a 500 capacity room looks A TON more impressive than 700 people in a 1000-1250 person room. It looks fuller, hoppiin', etc...that impresses the crowd easier which helps the energy/vibe and word will spread easier. If it feels on the empty side, even if there are more people, it brings everything down for the crowd. Cant' say I know from experience, but imagnie the DJs experience can be influenced in the same way.

Sometime no matter how hard one works or how well they do it, the environment just isn't there.

With the best to Gil and Fei-Fei (and S.E.) and hope they continue trying to do stuff (without breaking anyone's bank). Would love to help once I make my final move to SoCal! They always seem to be in such good spirits!

Re: Nikita's last night at Circus 12/27/08

I just started to get into trance and raves/clubs since EDC in June. Out of all the clubs/raves I been to, nothing compares to Nikita/Circus. I'm very disappointed to hear this. The atmosphere is (was?) just plain awesome.

damn it! great vibe ! new location!

Posted by alan on Dec-27-2008 23:27:

this reflects more on the failure of Circus rather than Nikita...

the people behind Nikita have actually done quite well since they took over at Circus, and props to GIl, Billy, Fei Fei and everybody behind it...

yup, from Atomic Mike to Red to Nikita, its the actions of Circus management that have been an obvious hindrance to making it a great consistent night...

at the end of the day, I wish you guys well and look forward to Nikita's new venue and its objective of promoting the trance genre...

happy new year.

Anyway, I hope things work out for you.

Arrrrg, I'm soooo sad.

I was ready for a great lineup and everything. So excited and I LOVE the venue. But I somehow knew Nikita was going week by week at Circus. Hopefully they can get a venue and keep the lineup!!

How so?

That's a real bummer. We all love that venue and it was nice to see a good group trying to make that place work again. I was looking forward to coming back from Phoenix to play there but I'll play for Nikita no matter where they host thier night.

Sad

Sad day...

My first Nikita experience at Circus was definitely one of the best nights out I ever had. Friendly people, dance floor not too crowded like Vanguard, and awesome atmosphere.

I know Gil was hard at work as well as the others behind Nikita. So where Nikita night goes, I will follow and bring friends.

I love the venue but yesterday was kinda sad to see the venue being so empty. It was kinda sad. I can understand how hard it is to bring in people during these hard times.

The club was really pinching pennies to survive and you can really tell. No go go dancers, no decorations, and the bartenders looked like they had no fucking clue what they were doing. Some of them looked like they needed cliff notes on what's supposed to go in some of the most basic drinks... and I'm not the type to make it hard on people by ordering some obscure drink with weird name.

And it was so obvious that they were under surveillance. Everything had to be measured with the shot glass because I guess they were being watched. Even then, one of the bartender in the middle was a total dickhead. I ordered a Long Island Ice Tea and he filled 3/4 of the drink from the tap, and then just squirted ONE part alcohol in there and filled up the rest with coke. I looked at him and said "are you serious man that's a Long Island" and he just said "yeah". Nice.

Tisk Tisk... you should have went upstairs to Ernesto! He knows what is doing and knows how to make drinks well even with the bosses watching.

Side note: I am so bummed to hear about this news. The people behind Nikita worked there asses off to make it work out!!! I have a feeling that it was working with the management that made them make the decision to leave circus.

We live in such a big city that I am sure that a new venue could be found and found soon!!!

His name is LOC and somehow someone believes that idiot has a clue. Gene seriously, give that club a facelift and proper promoter that won't screw you.

Sucks for Gil and crew but you tried. wah wah wah
