Top 100 DJs of 2008 / Readers Choice Poll / Resident Advisor

The votes have been counted for RAs Top 100 DJ poll and the results are mind boggling! Compared to the other top 100 DJ poll by DJmag.com the top ten DJs are are drilled down to a low spot of #65 in the RAs poll. Take a look;

As you can see some numbers are black and white. These numbers all depend on a ton of factors like promotion and credibility. DJmags poll has been going down for years so of course it is a staple in the dance community. With that siad, DJs having been pouring more effort into swaying votes from fellow fans. RAs poll is the sites first stab at a viewers choice poll, there user base is unknown and although they take on a global scale Im sure being a fairly new site they are saturated in more places then others. Take a look at the results for yourself at DJMag.com ResidentAdvisor.net

Who is this LUCIANO who's #3 on that list? Someone post a set cause his description is making me think WTF?

03 LUCIANO

Many have complained that Luciano plays the same records over and over in his DJ sets. The thing that those people seem to forget? They're damn good records. Sure, Luciano may not have reached too far into his box in 2008, but it's a set that has resonated with many. And why not? Luciano effortlessly takes in the floppy funk of his Cadenza label, the softcore romanticism of M83 and the chattering naturalism of sampled folk singers from around the world. In a genre where cold, mechanical mixing is often valued above all else, Luciano's DJing feels defiantly alive and wondrously human.

RA is a hell of a lot more accurate in terms of the current state of scene and most definitely quality. DJ Mag is full of how marketable you are and politics, and a bunch of nub voters. DJ Mag poll is not credible to me at all.

Posted by rizo on Dec-31-2008 19:49:

Just let Armin's marketing team focus on RA and he'll get number one on there too

Posted by djjoshuaallen on Dec-31-2008 19:56:

DJ Polls represent popularity, thats all. Its the # 1 most popular DJ. Not the #1 most technical, or the #1 most innovative, or the #1 producer. Although the tech house and techno movement have gathered steam in the past few years, its still a popularity contest in which DJ's like Ricardo Villabos dont stand anywhere near DJ's like Armin Van Buuren & Tiesto. Im willing to bet more people voted for Armin Van Buren & Tiesto in the DJ mag poll then all the votes together in this Resident Advisor Poll. All these polls are lame anyway, but in this industry all that matters is how many fuckin tickets you sell, and the DJ mag poll best represents that.

Ive never even heard that they had a poll, if it even mattered the big djs would conquer that one too.

This is the first year they've had a reader voted poll. Usually it's just an RA top 10 from contributers.

Posted by fury on Jan-01-2009 00:26:

I'm surprised Armin is as high as he is on the RA poll. I wonder if those were mostly joke votes?
