Greg Pidcock (Allied Nations Design) - Gaucho Techno - 01/01/09

After a couple of months, I'm back with a new mix! This one is fun, some awesome tracks and some crazy dancefloor vibes! I put this mix together as my and my family traveled Patagonia in Southern Argentina. I had been trying for weeks to get something going but it was down south where it all became clear! This one goes out to the parilladas, pampas and the Gauchos!

i liked this, didn't like an iffy part in the middle where the tunes didn't was to my liking but the beginning and the end was really nice.

Digging that intro tune, vocals and overall groove fit together very nicely.

i listened to this offhandedly about three times now. the reaction is basically always the same - the opening 3 to 4 tracks are probably some of the best mixing i've heard yet. and a pleasure to listen to.

there is a transition there (which i'll have to figure out where exactly) that completely flips the bitch on it and goes into most songs i didn't enjoy. before somewhat pulling it out of the gutter towards the finish.

i guess i agree with montana. and i will pinpoint where it fucks up for me in a bit after one more listen with a t/l handy.

OK, so I finished listening to this on the way home from work. I really enjoyed the first part like Denys, but I thought that the first mix was a bit off. Beatmatching was fine, I just thought you brought the full incoming track too quick. It doesn't sound bad, it's just quite abrupt, and just personal taste, really.

Like I said earlier, your opener is ace. It's something I've never heard before and one of the best vocal tracks I've heard lately. Although I said earlier that the mixing into this track wasn't as smooth, "Back to LA" is probably my favorite tune on the set. I like the overall vibe of the first part of your set a lot. Techy, yet still very housey.

I think the middle part was a bit too "electro house" for my taste, but it was still something I enjoyed. We'll see what Denys has to say later but I think the point where it picked up again was with "Warrior". The track that comes after, "Aldo Haydar - Please (Trevor Dubolution Remix)" was my other favorite track of the set and is something that is definitely going in the crate.

Overall it was a nice mix, due to the title I expected it to be techier but it turned out to be still very housey, just the way I like it.

Oh, and there was this track in the middle that was really awesome. It had some really cool jazzy vibe with horn instruments. Wasn't really following the tracklist at the time I was listening (in the car)...which one is it?

this mix is where you lost me. it got (as oscar pointed out) all electro and repetitive. followed by Happy Song which really didn't fit well. Panic Attacks was a bit stale - same can be said for Tabasco - trumpeta and percussion.

but the thing is - i'm looking at this the wrong way. i think that rhythmic glitchy shit would be perfect for the middle of the night dark floor-grinding. so maybe me sitting at work at my desk trying to get in the mood is the wrong way to go about things.

the rest i likes. esp Tiger Stripes take on Warrior (CVS's still takes the cake for me tho). i think you stepped away from "techno" so to speak. there's a lot more melody/depth and emotion to the latter part (Please is definitely one of them). Let It Out has great vocals.

again. it's all personal preference.

It's so funny. from housey people I get a reaction very much like this, and from techno people the complete opposite. I'll go over some individuals from both of you academics later, just reading all this now, but this exact reaction is pretty interesting for me. tried to keep everyone happy, can only be so successful, but like you said, those tunes that didn't stand out to you in a "deep" way are dance floor destruction, tried and true, and the techno heads over here picked up on that while the house people felt safer in the beginning and end-

That track is the Moguai remix of Tobasco... fucking brilliant song

Aldo Haydar is the shit and his label BuenaMusica has some greeeat prog and house gems!


As for the first mix, i tried it a hundred million ways and i kinda like how it goes, and while the basslines changing is somewhat abrupt, the rest of the elements I find come in and out in their own time. Was a tough mix as the first tune ends very abruptly and the second starts with the big bassline from the beginning, but for some reason I'm still in love with how they fit together.

actually i think this set is a nice middle ground between the 2. It is not quite techno, but not always quite house. Some of the middle parts lacked a bit of drive to me , but all in all it is a good set and i can see this bridging the gap for people who don't really know much about tech. Kinda like tiesto if he combed his hair like hitler and wore a scarf. Good job.

some of this would probably work great to open for holden...good luck with that man.
