How Sony inadvertently helped a competitor and lost position in the videogame market.

Here is an interesting article based on a book that chronicles Sony's big mistake on letting the 360 have the advantages it has.

wow. that's pretty crazy. how could sony let that happen? surely they would have something in a contract or agreement that would stop ibm from working for their main rival at the same time, let alone using the research for the sony chip to help work on the microsoft one

Red about this elsewhere, but certainly interesting anyway.

That's what I would have thought, but business partnerships and agreements go far beyond rivalries in the video game arena.

Hell, Sony and MS are more so friends than enemies. Example being Microsoft Windows powering Sony PC's. Maybe that doesn't relate to this scenario, but I would find it near-impossible to believe that one of the largest companies in the world had no idea this was happening.

And if they didn't...well, Sony deserved this then.

Yea they both have many business relations in a lot of the different manufacturing departments. If this was a so called stab in the back to Sony, this would be a major lawsuit and be all over the tech news. I also can't see this hurting them actually, since the consumers don't give a damn, what chips are in what machines. They only want to know cost and game titles available.

Don't hang out on game forums much do you? Little kids seem to think they're all part of the marketing team these days. You get ridiculous flame wars about which companies sell the most units or make the most profits.

Then again, I guess they're not really the consumers. Their mommies are.

It's because I own a ps3, it is therefore inherently better.

Exactly, it still comes down to the parents making the purchases

And yet the Wii is still raping both of them. Go figure.

And the Wii is the only console that has been making profit for Nintendo since the day it launched. They really did get the sweetest deal out of the bunch this time around.

Have u seen the latest sales figures for Wii and DS? The DS sold around 3 times the amount compared to Xbox and 4 times for PS3, lol.
Nintendo with their weaker hardware is Pwning everyone. Though they won't admit it, but Nintendo having piracy issues is contributing to their extremely high sales figures. Xbox of course has issues as well buy they are very swift in preventing it and forget about playing online with a mod chip for most people. With the Wii u can play online with hacked games without fear (at least up to this point). If we ever see a PS3 solution to boot backup, watch Sony's sales figures and profits soar.
